There were several accounts. Some people said "candy" (presumably because they misunderstood what Swisher Sweets are. Other people were saying cigars and cigarettes. Yes, on Saturday August 9. Then people went to the Quik Trip to ask if they'd reported shoplifting. They said No, because of course they hadn't: it was Ferguson Market and Liquors, not QT.

No doubt the cops were on scene talking about the "robbery," which is how it got to be a rumor in the crowd and online.

(Note: This does NOT excuse the shooting. But it is interesting to know that the alleged connection was public knowledge within 2 hours of the shooting. What isn't clear is when & how the person tweeting came to know of the connection)

The contemporaneous tweets which link Brown with the convenient store crime (likely because of police chatter he was overhearing), or the police who have been handling this badly all along continuing to handle it badly.

Certainly you're not suggesting that the police who have, so far, been masters at incompetence managed to hack Twitter and plant faked contemporaneous tweets.

(Aside from which, Johnson, through his attorney - former Mayor of St. Louis - admitted their involvement in the robbery.)
