http://www.buzzfeed.com/ryanhatesthis/this-publix-employee-went-viral-on-facebook-after-someone-to?s=mobileI shopped at Publix tonight at Ormond Towne Square and saw this random act of kindness by a Publix employee. I took it quickly and I found out the employee's name later from his manager. An old man could not reach down to tie his shoe so not only did Gage tie the one but he did the other as well; all with a smile. I thought he should be recognized for his actions. Here is the picture I snapped on my iPhone.

(24,559 posts)He likely saved a broken bone. I broke my collarbone once when I tripped on shoe laces.

(146,286 posts)I'm glad he's being recognized. Everyone should do things like that for people.

(16,296 posts)and if pressed to give positives about Florida, Publix would be near the top. There are Wal-mart, Win-Dixies, and other grocery stores here; but - except for the occasional farmer's market - it is always Publix (even though they had that Duck Dynasty shit a while back) .

(32,079 posts)It's my favorite place to grocery shop. Most of the employees seem to be as nice as the guy in the story. I also like that they hire lots of developmentally disabled kids as baggers, etc. If I ever manage to escape this hellhole of a town, Publix will be one of the few things I'll miss about it.

(42,302 posts)is neither all bad nor all good. We have our share of whackos, but we've also got great kids, including my own two sons.
Thanks LA.

(4,178 posts)I had a friend who had a son with some special Ed needs. She sent him to a private high school because she was afraid he might be bullied in the public school.
She was still terrified of what his first day in high school would be like. He had to wear uniform leather shoes and the new soles were slippery.
He slipped and dropped all his books in the hall. A senior student stopped and picked them up and retied his shoe laces.

I think we all needed this one.

(4,178 posts)My 80 yr old uncle's biggest fear of flying is that there is not always a place to sit and put shoes back on after security check. He can't tie his laces unless he sits.
Maybe some people will learn to notice people who need help with laces like this gentleman did.
I find most supermarket employees to be very helpful as in this picture.

(15,480 posts)older customers are always asked at checkout if they need help getting their groceries to their car. And I've made it a point to tell the manager that's exactly why I shop there. The competitive area Giant Eagle is huge already, and is now doubling in size to become what is described as a Market District. It's a supersized facility - you need a GD golf cart to get around. Plus the available parking was planned for the smaller original store, so you have to hike a considerable distance just to enter the store. Not fun during rainstorms or when it's snowing. A definite example of small is better.

(34,136 posts)And a few times they have insisted when I looked particularly tired, even when I told them I didn't need the help. Once when shopping soon after surgery I was very tired by the time I had selected my groceries and got to the checkout. The clerk sent the bag boy to get one of their electric carts and made sure he helped me out.
I love Publix!

(4,475 posts)Most of them are young-ish like this guy, probably in their early to mid twenties. Positive attitudes, really friendly, seem to take pride in their work. I can't count the number of times I have had an interaction with one of them that I walked away smiling from. So this story doesn't surprise me at all.
My husband even wrote Publix a letter one time to tell them how nice the employees were.
