Amnesty International Takes “Unprecedented” U.S. Action In Ferguson

Amnesty International Takes “Unprecedented” U.S. Action In Ferguson

WASHINGTON — Amnesty International has taken “unprecedented” action to deal with the situation in Ferguson, Missouri, by sending resources the human rights group has never deployed inside the United States.

<snip>

On Sunday, after the team examined the situation in Ferguson, Amnesty International USA released three recommendations going forward:

• A prompt, thorough, independent and impartial investigation into the shooting of Michael Brown. Brown’s family must be kept informed throughout the investigation. Under international law, police officers suspected of having committed unlawful acts must be held to account through effective investigation, and where warranted, prosecuted.

• All police departments involved in policing the ongoing protests in Ferguson in response to Michael Brown’s death must act in accordance with international human rights standards. Any human rights abuses in connection with the policing of protests must be independently and impartially investigated, and those responsible held accountable.

• A thorough review of all trainings, policies and procedures with regards to the use of force and the policing of protests should be undertaken.

The Drug War and all the corruption that goes with it is a national embarrassment. All this stems from the Attitudes from the Drug War. End it now.

The drug war started all this. It has pitted law enforcement against the people, and undermined our 4th amendment rights. The drug war has corrupted everything in its path, and solved none of the issues it proposed to solve. The controlled substances act handed all the control of the drug market off to criminal organizations. It's long past time to find out who's who in drug prohibition and vote the prohibitions out!

The entire country is on trial. It is becoming every day more and more epic and symbolic; our children and future generations may be judged by the outcome. The end result of clear neglect there are consequences coming.

What happens to a dream deferred?

Does it dry up
like a raisin in the sun?
Or fester like a sore--
And then run?
Does it stink like rotten meat?
Or crust and sugar over--
like a syrupy sweet?

Maybe it just sags
like a heavy load.

Or does it explode?

Let's see what excuse they have now. I guess some of us realized what a huge civil rights crisis was developing and others decided to show ODS.

This has Congress talking...but you know, maybe they shouldn't be involved either...oh wait, we all hate Congress...

usually it's because nations don't have money and resources.

in that case it was just because those with power didn't seem to care enough to do anything about it.

But the US HAS undergone international election monitoring. Of course, reichwingers complained about it.

Funny how they like to claim that Obama has damaged world opinion against the US, but it is their actions that draw international rebuke.
