http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2727255/Woman-cited-climbing-zoos-giraffe-pen.htmlA 2-year-old giraffe named Wally gave Hall a lick, then before turning and kicking her in the face, police said.
'Zoo staff advised that giraffes are capable of killing lions, and that Hall was lucky not to have been more seriously injured,' the report said.
Police said they ticketed Hall for 'Harassment of Zoo Animals' and fined her for $686.
The police report says Hall revealed 'she climbed into the exhibit area because she loves giraffes.'
Dane County said in a release last year that 12-foot-tall Wally is a reticulated giraffe and earlier lived at Illinois' Niabi Zoo.
Wally lives alongside another reticulated giraffe, named Eddie.

Eek, giraffes can kill lions?

(32,886 posts)In the time I was on safari, I noted that the lions do not mess with the giraffes. The guides say that if they come upon a baby that has strayed from their mother, they may attack the baby, but generally lions do not go after giraffes.

(32,886 posts)More people are killed by non-predators than predators in Africa.
When you go over there, that is the first thing the guides drill into your head.
Now that being said, I managed to pet a wild zebra and pass very close to wild giraffes but only because I was on horseback. The animals somehow don't understand that you are not part of the horse. The zebras and giraffes like horses.

Think again lady! Wild animals can be HIGHLY UNPREDICTABLE!!

(146,288 posts)Over the fence. I can't imagine going into an enclosure, though. At that point, you're interfering with the giraffe's space, and may be interpreted as a threat by the animal.

(45,274 posts)Wally is the smaller of the 2 giraffes in the pen. They're housed in a fenced enclosure of posts & boards that would be pretty easy for a human to get into.
