The uber-right American Family Association has attacked the ALS Ice-Bucket Challenge, because ALS research involves stem cells, and stem cells are snowflake babies, so according to the American Family Association, the Ice Bucket Challenge kills children.
Charlie Pierce has something to say about that:
"I have a serious history of Alzheimer's in my family. If embryonic stem-cells could possibly keep me from the fate of my father and all four of his siblings, I'll eat those little fkers out of the petri dish with a spoon, and the American Family Association and I can take it up with god at a later date."

I take the pill because I like having sex and I dont want to be pregnant. Even the latter part seems a bit like overkill to me, because, thanks to the pill, I dont even really think about being pregnant very much. The pill is very effective in this way! Thats why it tends to get antis pissed off more than other forms of contraception because you just take it every day and the fear of getting pregnant tends to recede from your mind to roughly the same low levels that people who wear a seatbelt religiously have of dying in a car accident. So yeah, I take the pill because I like having sex and want to continue to have more of it. Lots and lots more of it.

I think there's something to be said about ceasing to let these freaks inject their never-ending subtext of 19th-century guilt into the debate.
No, I'm not ashamed about using stem cells to improve my own life, or using birth control to have pregnancy-free sex, or using vaccines to not get sick, etc...
