[font color="navy" face="Verdana"]I'm in Sacramento, and it was a long rocking sensation, definitely enough to almost feel like being on a boat.

Trying to find information now. Epicenter closer to you in SF, I presume....

I have to admit, the adrenaline is still pumping a little. I thought for a second that we might be in for something big, the way that started off. Set off all the dogs around our house barking here in Menlo Park.

Used to live in L.A. area and went through Sylmar quake of 1971 --a 6.6 magnitude.

I do not miss living in earthquake country. Hope this isn't going
to be followed by a bigger one!

Got your bottled water supplies?

Not unusual for Cobb and the Geysers, though. I think we're done rockin and roller for a while.

Yup, that one was intense enough. My heart's still pounding.

Once I know I'm OK, I always go to the USGS and report it:

strong, rolling, could see the movement, and upset our indoor wind-chimes (earthquake sensors :p). rather peaceful, like the house and everything was going to slide down the hill at another moment, but later, later, later... like waves of drunkenness.

As a college student decades ago I researched then-current efforts to improve earthquake safety in L.A. It took a LONG time, but eventually things improved in most of the city.

Because of its history, SF seems to be more sensitive to these issues.

Aug 2014

Three buildings were destroyed when a fire broke out at a mobile home park in the city of Napa early Sunday shortly after a 6.0 magnitude earthquake struck just northwest of American Canyon.

Firefighters were unable to battle the blaze after a water main broke when the earthquake hit at 3:20 a.m, said city fire Capt. Steve Becker.

Two blocks were evacuated near the fire at the Napa Valley Mobile Home Parkat 1040 Orchard Ave. near Mark Way, just off Highway 29. Water tankers were later brought in to control the blaze. Firefighters were unclear on how the fire started.

No one was injured in the fire, but several people were injured across Napa, Becker said.

Hi, I am in southern Cal, and was up outsied early this morning. I happened to be enjoying the cool morning air when I noticed little waves in the pool. It wasn't breezy, and I just glanced around the edges thinking maybe a lizard had fallen in. After finishing my cig, I went in made some coffee and turned on the news. It really surprised me to find I had little waves from that quake so far north!

Thanks. funny thing is I've seen this happen before years ago, and knew what it was, for some reason it just didn't register this time! I'm sure glad it wasn't as bad as the biggie near Oakland.
