(55,981 posts)Since there is money elsewhere in Congress we shouldn't care if H. Clinton takes bribes openly from Goldman-Sachs. Am I close?

(52,431 posts)by suggesting there is something particular about clinton and goldman sachs that doesn't apply to essentially all major donors and all major politicians.

(2,510 posts)It's OK if our politician is corrupt, because all politicians are corrupt.
And if you point out our politician is corrupt, then you are a bad person, because you are diminishing the problem that all politicians are corrupt.
Got it.

(52,431 posts)the toon said that money in politics corrupts. it didn't talk about anyone in particular.
it's a serious problem. my objection was simply that trying to turn it into an argument about one particular situation, one particular politician, makes it as if that politician is the problem and others are fine. they're not. none of them are.
well, no doubt plenty of them are decent people, but they're willing participants in an increasingly corrupt system.
imho, odds are pretty good that the only truly principled politicians are the one-termers or the zero-termers.
i'm not defending any politicians here. the op was an indictment against the entire system. really no one is immune as long as money plays such a big role. anyone who tries to buck the system absent a comprehensive solution (legislation and/or a *good* court decision) is just pissing into the wind.

(2,510 posts)And I don't like it. Makes me want to disengage. So, I guess I will keep hoping a believing that it is possible to make a difference. Even if it is going for the least corrupt person instead of the rarest of breeds, the honest politician.

(55,981 posts)you think that all politicians are corrupt therefore it's ok to support HRC? If that's your point. If not, help me out.

(55,981 posts)HRC is the epitome of politicians that take money from corporations. She is blatant about it. The money from Goldman-Sachs wasn't a campaign donation, it was cash that went directly to increase her wealth. Saying that everyone does it doesn't eliminate her responsibility.
