1. In other words, "IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT!"

Being born into poverty, being ill, having a drunk T-bone your car, getting thrown out of work at 50 because your grey hair makes the place look shabby, they're ALL YOUR FAULT.

So control those thoughts, kiddies, because that's the way to fame and riches.

Reading it, I was thinking on a much smaller level.. I've been so angry lately (not without good reason, given all the crap ongoing in the world granted) that it has affected so many interactions and the responses I get on a daily basis. It seems the look on my face--even when asking an innocent question is apparently being viewed negatively causing the other person to become defensive.

So, on that level, I think the message has merit.

response to those circumstances. And, no, i certainly do not believe a child (or anyone) born to poverty should be assumed to have no chance of escaping that poverty--even while society may not remove inequities and obstacles (as we must strive to do).

6. the meaning is true, but something is lost in the translation

it is not meant so much as "watch your <blank>" as it is "be aware of your <blank>".

learning to respect those around you is important for people to learn early. it is increasingly difficult to learn as one grows older because those around us become less willing to earn your respect. people want to believe that they should be respected because of the station they feel they have earned. respect is a tough word to define as well. what is respect? something to think about i guess.

thanks.
