No link yet, but Don Lemon is saying there is an audio recording of the shooting. I listened to it on TV. There was a volley of shots followed by a long pause and another volley. No single shot followed by a volley as the Wilson people claim. The recording came from a guy having a video chat with someone. He lives in the apartments at the shooting sight.

(30,439 posts)The witnesses said the cop first fired at brown as he was running, brown then turned around with his hands up and was killed.

(21,925 posts)One, a split second pause, followed by five. Then a longer pause, with one shot and a final cluster of three. If that is ten shots is there a standard police weapon that would hold ten rounds in a clip? (I know little about guns) Then there would be the single shot allegedly fired in the car. This sequence happens pretty fast. According to Michael Baden, there was no gunpowder found on Brown indicating he wasn't shot at close range. If Brown ran from the officer and turned around, the quickness of this group of shots wouldn't seem to give a fleeing suspect enough time to run away, stop, and turn around to bull rush the officer. I have doubts about the shots on this tape being the true shots of the incident, because of the number and the brevity of it all, but we'll see.

(348 posts)I was a fresh hire out here in California just before mass layoffs happened when the economy crashed. Just my luck. Probably a very good thing though cause I'd have ended up like Serpico

(81,261 posts)Glad you're here! It's just been the most maddening, frustrating, sad, disappointing, and rather (sadly) illuminating experience. For those of us (I say "us" because one of those naifs was yours truly) who thought, naively, that the election of Barack Obama to the presidency meant we actually, somehow, had turned a page on racism in this country. I thought it meant MAYBE we really had grown up as a nation and left that shit behind. I was sure that America had finally gotten over it, or at least made a solid, recognizable start.
WRONG, WRONG, and WRONG AGAIN.
My disappointment is as big as the galaxy.

(17,863 posts)What did they do to qualify this audio recording? It seems like you would have gotten a reaction from the speaker to hearing the shots.
I wouldn't trust a thing CNN reports at this point. Be skeptical until more proof is offered. Accepting something because it agrees with your opinion is damaging if it later proves to be untrue.

(348 posts)has an attorney (a friend). She said that he didn't know what he had recorded for a couple of days. He was too absorbed in his video chat I guess. He didn't even know Michael Brown was shot until later when we looked outside.

(17,863 posts)I would think that they could analyze acoustically by test firing in the street and recording in his apartment. I wonder if they bagged and tagged the cop's service weapon (I am not sure how much variance you would have between guns and makes of guns).
That is why it is so important to get the narrative of the police officer locked in. I can't see how he can keep his job without filing a report. I am sure the narrative will conform to all known facts when it is finally documented.

(2,805 posts)It is really sad that after two weeks we don't even have the basic facts of what happened. All police departments involved should be investigated by the DOJ. We should know after 2 weeks whether 6 shots or 11 shots were fired. The fact that we don't explains the people of Ferguson demanding answers. I hope the DOJ is expanding their investigation beyond the initial request for a finding of fact regarding civil rights violations to figuring out if the the local police departments are corrupt, in regards to not giving the public information pursuant to an officer involved shooting. This is infuriating and I don't live in the community.
My personal opinion on first hear of the audio is that the person who is recording would not have released that audio if they did not think it important. They were apparently flattering a friend in a very "personal" way. He gave up his privacy to provide information to authorities. I hope the authorities are worthy of his good deed. Local authorities including, Ferguson Police. St. Louis Count Police, Mayor of Ferguson and Governor of Missouri and the M.E. who apparently not so forthcoming with facts that may embarrass them. Kudos to the guy (and his friend) who released the audio.

(13,583 posts)Complete police report of the incident following their usual procedures or not? Photographs of the officers alleged injuries, clothing and weapon taken as evidence or not? I have a feeling things will stink to high heaven because many of the usual protocals will not have been followed.
