As a proud member of the group who tilt at windmills and undertake lost causes, I understand how some could just throw up their hands and exit the DU stage.
DU is a melting pot made up of all kinds of people with lots of different views. We are a cross-section of this society (minus whacko right-wingers), each of whom has their own unique take on life as we know it.
Toleration, acceptance, and having a goal of understanding others views goes a long way in keeping ones sensibilities about them and not making and ass of themselves complaining DU is not just how they want it to be.
Many have come here, and many have gone away. It's life. Congratulations to those who can hang here. After all we all hang together or we hang separately, eh?
Cheers to you good DUers who can stick with it through thick and thin. You are special.

(2,478 posts)Where does the frustration come from? Is it the comments/discussions? I'm one of those that just hits the headlines and I love DU. It's my first stop for news. I take what I learn here and take the fight somewhere else.

(13,685 posts)It is frustrating because one would think that people who come here are like you in that they come here for info that they can use in RL - Real Life.
In the long term, when one imagines their view is the only one that counts, and they don't get such affirmations from the whole of DU, their frustration builds beyond reason and they take an exit.
My sense is that most of the long term members realize that DU is not a solution to the problem but merely a sounding board, and then they reserve their frustrations for someplace other than DU.
There is much to be frustrated about in this weird, wild, whacked out world, eh? DU is merely a place to vent and educate, that is all.

(75,480 posts)Use it as it was meant to be used, for information gathering, debating issues and even airing opinions. When someone disagrees with you, you can't take it personally. If someone thinks your posts are stupid and says so, don't take it personally. You just aren't on the same page as that person and that's okay. I do feel there is not enough posting of substantial issues and too much silly stuff like BigTree pointed out. But that's MHO and you don't have to agree. However, if you snark at me and I fight back, don't get offended and say I'm rude. I already know that. It's not personal.
