(5,957 posts)You announce on Friday afternoon when you want a low profile.

(99,711 posts)I don't see how you can shoot an unarmed man, except in the very narrowest of circumstances, and get away with it.
This is such a strange case.

(69,059 posts)There are a lot of angry, armed white people running around down there who think Sanford is a hero.

(60,567 posts)The leader of a small neo-Nazi group in Michigan posted on his Web site that his people INTENDED to do that, but they haven't materialized.
The story was posted on an obscure news site in Florida with a headline stating that the people were patrolling Sanford (in the present tense) but there haven't been any videos, photos, or reports from more credible sources that it is actually happening.
Here's the original piece, which was updated a few days ago, and no longer claims that patrols are actually happening.
http://blogs.miaminewtimes.com/riptide/2012/04/heavily_armed_neo-nazis_patrol.php
The original story was quickly picked up by Huffington Post and others, who passed it on as fact without doing any real digging to verify it. It's just another Internet BS story that got out of control.

With the way things have gone so far with this case, nothing would surprise me but I will be angry and disappointed if no charges are filed.

(692 posts)After letting his lawyers quit on him (expect the bill in the mail, Miami Earp) so that he could confab with fucking Sean Hannity, my take on the guy is that he's a flake with Second Amendment "issues" and will be unintentionally self-destructive throughout his 15 minutes. This means he's not a player. Florida prosecutors will have nobody pissed at them if they take Zimmerman to the mat.
On the other hand, they'll win points with the black community and might even give a little protection to the "stand your ground" laws if they do toss him away for 20 years. He'll get another set of lawyers, to be sure--Daddy'll see to it and the RW noise machine will see to it. But I see manslaughter in the first and 20 years of kitchen duty in this boy's future. And good riddance, even if it is more because it's politically expedient this time to do the right thing.
Hope this didn't come off as too cynical.

(55,981 posts)There are a lot of people that dont want him to be charged incl the NRA. A trial would be very embarrassing to those pushing SYG laws.

(21,642 posts)some crony of his dad's. And yes, I expect he'll be charged.

(692 posts)I think we'll see Zimbo in front of a judge in a day or two. Murder two is what the prosecutor wants.
And I think your analysis is backwards. Convicting Zimmerman will, ironically, protect the SYG law, by making clear that this particular case is not a SYG one.

(15,953 posts)I think his aggressive behavior plus his failure to heed police warnings to back off will be used to show his mindset that night. But the real evidence that will sink him will be the 911 tape of Trayvon screaming for help repeatedly for more than 1/2 a minute before the shots were fired.
How can you claim you feared for your life when your victim is screaming "HELP ME!" over and over?
Bruce Wayne
(692 posts)If it's confirmed Trayvon's voice, it'll be like having the tragedy all over again. Had it really been Zimmerman's, I could at least see this murder as the act of a lunatic. Damn. How do you shoot a guy screaming "help"?

(21,646 posts)So how can he be charged ?? by the time they locate him Florida law will have made a trial unlawful probably...
His ex lawyers say he is still in the country but most likely not in FL but they could just be talkin out their ass too who knows
But since you asked for opinion I say no
Disgruntled community left in anger and unanswered ?s will do the white repug party some good down there and possibly nation wide

(25,965 posts)I have a record that could earn me the nickname 'Nostradumbass.'
Despite that, I sometimes can't help tossing out a prediction here & there. My prediction: Zimmerman will be charged, but only because of all the attention that has been focused on this case - especially that from the federal government.

(25,965 posts)In fact, he may have already flown the coop. Regardless, the wheels of justice would continue to turn, even in his absence. Going by what we've seen from those Zimmerman and those assisting him, however, they'll make colossal mistakes at every turn and betray his location.

(3,384 posts)Perhaps an attempt to appease the public ire, by assuring that a task force will be assembled to look into re-writing Stand your Ground & perhaps investigate the Sanford Police Force. However the task force & their decision will all develop at their own pace & the public will be notified of their findings.
Nothing will come of young Trayvon's unjust murder.
As for George Zimmerman, he has been given time before Corey's public announcement to re-locate.
MintyFresh
(29 posts)his friend from faux newz helped him get away. Also wanted to add if they don't charge him then it will send a message to all people like minded that they can just shoot anyone & use the SYG to get off. Bad message.

(14,549 posts)the Sanford Chief of Police and everyone who tried to cover this up.
No GZ crime = no cover up. I don't see how they charge GZ without charging others or at least doing some BS "on-going investigation" of the cover up.

(4,578 posts)unfortunately. Dump the news of no charges going into a weekend where coverage is less. Attention spans are short in the media generally and bad news politically is usually dumped on Fridays. Although, personally, I think they plan to mitigate the coverage by a weekend dump not understanding the longstanding power of the story.

(24,096 posts)It would be foolish to even attempt such a tactic - you think the Rev is going to let this just go away because of a weekend between his shows? No way.
