General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI think that Bernie Sanders wants to be on the debate stage with Hillary Clinton,
if Hillary runs. He wants to provide a little context when she (or any other Third Wayer) reminds us of important functional untruths, things like lobbyists representing real people like disabled children or whatever claptrap they spew this time around. Bernie'll remind us that 95% (or whatever) of lobbying cash is for the interests of the Predator Class. That sort of thing.
And if things happen to work out, I'm sure he'd by honored to do the Presidenting.
The funny thing is that if Bernie runs, I expect that Hillary won't. She'll know she'd have an impossible task in fleeing from her history as delivered unvarnished. But if Sanders and Hillary both do run, it'll be great entertainment.

(75,480 posts)He has said he wants to debate the Democratic candidates and Hillary would be at the top. I hope he doesn't get uninvited like Dennis Kucinich, who wanted to do the same thing. Sorry about the multiple posts. They all said what I said in this post.

(34,589 posts)I don't think Bernie will get Kuciniched. Bernie's got more gravitas in his own way, and the times they are a-changin'...

(4,748 posts)wanted to put his feet up on the desk in the oval office. Bernie works for the working class people in this country. Hillary I think honestly believes the corporations and banks will allow a little "trickle down" if given enough. My mind is already made up.

(19,926 posts)you can ask Senator Sanders directly during the Brunch with Bernie segment.
I don't think Manny has Bernie's to do list on him.

(30,058 posts)If Manny has the to do list for Bernie to debate Hillary then maybe he does have Bernie's to do list.

(9,126 posts)She will have the war chest and the name recognition. But I will bet a few dollars that she'll hire Axelrod & Co. to write some nice speeches because so many of us love teh speeches.

(45,079 posts)to be able to move the debate to the left with Hillary. My opinion is run Bernie run, and do it from wherever you want.

(39,171 posts)I doubt any major politician is.
It is a moot point anyway - he is not a Democrat so there is no way they will be on the same debate stage.

"Mr. Cuomo was also asked about his refusal to debate and what message that sent about his respect for democracy.
I dont think it has anything to do with democracy, he replied. I think it has to do with individual campaigns. Sometimes you have debates; sometimes you dont have debates. It depends on the campaign. It depends on the issues."

Yeah, debates aren't necessary in an Oligarchy,

(39,171 posts)she will then debate other major candidates in the general.
She will debate Bernie if he runs as a Dem. She might debate Bernie if he runs as an independent and is on the ballot in enough states to make him a credible candidate. Third party presidential campaigns are hard as hell - I doubt he can pull it off but we will see.

(30,481 posts)Hillary has no fear of men. Poor little Hillary won't cower down because a man is on stage to debate her. She hasn't in the past and she won't now. Yeah, she would have an impossible task "fleeing". Shit that should only be written on FR.
It won't be great entertainment if they both run. That is where you go even more wrong. If that's possible. What would it be if they both ran? To anyone serious about issues it would be great for the party. Your framing is so logically flawed it is unreal.
"things like lobbyists representing real people like disabled children or whatever claptrap they spew this time around."
You clearly have no clue what "lobbyists" are. I mean no clue.
MannyGoldstein
(34,589 posts)That Hillary won't run because she's afraid of men.
Men are big and scary.
Thanks for the help.

(30,481 posts)You know, the lobby group that every union calls to boycott. Does Bernie like their green money? Are they one of his top contributors? It would greatly help if you understood how politicians love their lobby money. Just a quick gloss over his largest contributors and every one of them is for the most part a lobby group.
But keep up with the deflection. I understand your unicorn took a hit last week.

(13,305 posts)She always needs a hippie to punch to make her look credible to the Beltway Media and all the serious insiders.
What better hippie than the ultimate hippie Senator from Vermont.
This is perfect because she can knock him around with her Third Way/DLC gobbledy gook and look serious to all those serious minded "independents" who all the important folks agree are where the election lies.
Sure, that will piss off some crazy, wild eyed Naderites who think the Democratic candidate should be progressive and represent the people. But as we're told time and time again, where are THEY going to go? What are THEY going to do? Vote Republican? HA! As if.
