http://blog.sfgate.com/techchron/2014/09/10/russian-hackers-publish-nearly-5-million-gmail-passwords/Nearly 5 million Gmail passwords were published on a Russian-language bitcoin security forum on Tuesday, according to a report from The Daily Dot.
The publisher, known as tvskit, claimed 60 percent of the 4,930,000 leaked usernames and passwords are valid. Spanish-, English-, and Russian-language Gmail and Google Plus accounts were targeted, along with user credentials for Russian search engine Yandex.
Many of the leaked accounts have been suspended or have newer passwords, according to The Daily Dot.
Google and Yandex representatives told CNews, a Russia-based news provider, that the data was collected through years of phishing and that their own systems were not compromised.

(5,417 posts)So if you log in from a new computer google sends you a text message with a security code and you have to use that code to log in. So even if somebody knows your password they need your cell phone as well.
Also I use a unique password for every site.
The first letter of the website name is the first letter of my password.
So my google password might be 'GPassword'.
DU might be 'Dpassword'
If somebody has stolen my gmail password they might try my login and password at 5/3 bank but the passwords don't match since there correct password is 5password. A human could catch on to the trend but generally hackers are trying in bulk on automated systems.
