By BRAD FRIEDMAN on 9/5/2014, 1:27pm PT
When will this 'tyranny' end?! Out today from the non-profit Kaiser Family Foundation:
MENLO PARK, Calif. - An early look at the cost of health insurance in 16 major cities finds that average premiums for the benchmark silver plan - the one upon which federal financial help under the Affordable Care Act to consumers is based - will decrease slightly in 2015. The new study from the Kaiser Family Foundation analyzes premiums in the largest cities in 15 states and the District of Columbia where information from rate filings is available.
Premiums for the second-lowest cost silver plan for individuals will fall by an average of 0.8 percent from current levels in these cities when open enrollment begins on Nov. 15, according to the study. The analysis finds that the premium for the second-lowest-cost silver plan is decreasing in 7 of the 16 areas studied - but also that changes in average premiums will vary considerably across areas. They range from a decline of 15.6 percent in Denver, Colorado (to $211 per month), to an increase of 8.7 percent in Nashville, Tennessee (to $205 per month). In both cases premiums are for a 40-year-old nonsmoker, before taking into account any tax credit. It is important to note that rate changes may be different in different rating areas in these states.
"There is variation, but so far, premium increases in year two of the Affordable Care Act are generally modest," said Drew Altman, Kaiser's President and CEO. "Double digit premium increases in this market were not uncommon in the past," Altman added.

1Strong. I actually, okay a pause here cause I am laughing so hard. Okay. I actually read a post that said that one of their lost expectations of this President was that he did not solve world peace. Say what? Not an exact quote, and no I can't remember where it was, yet it was said.
Holy~ They say the BOG believes he is the Messiah.
Meh~

(11,843 posts)Al Franken's challenger is shouting to anyone who will listen that prices will go up because of Obamacare, despite the fact hat they have gone down. Wouldn't surprise me in the least to see Insurance companies make announcements like this in select markets for election talking points and then change their minds after the election.

(22,000 posts)And when I mean people, I mean Republicans. He/She is in a very rural part of Oregon that I happened to grow up in. My mom works at a hospital in the area and hears nothing but negative shit from people about the ACA (Obamacare). I'm not 100% sure that's what roguevalley meant, but it's just a sneaking suspicion given my experience being from that area.

(31,849 posts)I find it interesting that the Hospitalists (Doctors with no Academic association) and the hospital administration (outside of the finance departments) HATE the ACA, but really can't say why; and the Doctors with Clinical and Research Practices LOVE (if not, like) the ACA because it lets them do medicine/research.

(40,656 posts)I lived in Central Point for 24 years and I'm in Alaska now. I LOVE OREGON! That being said, I am glad to hear this is a rumor. I hear it a lot here. People just don't understand or know about the ACA and that is the fault of the ACA people. I wish more information had been pushed harder. I will try and find out more but people who LOVE the ACA up here are afraid. I have heard only good things from people who have insurance now but this 'rumor' (?) is worrisome and no one seems to know where the answer is. So I came here, to smart land.
RV, named after the valley I love. PDX. Portland. My granny and grandpa lived there forever. I love Portland. What a great town. Take care down there, David.

Thanks for the compliment on my name, a grand niece and nephew use to call me that as toddlers. They couldn't quite pronounce my name so they called me sheshe.

(17,656 posts)Do you remember that thread that was started not even a whole month after President Obama had taken the oath of office back in 2009?
I do.
The Republican Governor running for re-election this year here in Idaho isn't talking about health care at all.
Nosirreebob.
He's being as quiet as a mouse about health care now.
That is probably because just a few weeks after the Supreme Court had declared that the ACA was constitutional, the Republican Governor bragged at the 2012 GOP convention that his state (Idaho) was "the first one to sue to overturn Obamacare" when he announced that the Idaho Republicans planned to back Romney for president.
The Governor actually bragged about it back 2012.
Like the complete numb skull that he is, only a few weeks after the Supreme Court had dashed his hopes of overturning it into a million pieces.
Un-be-lieve-able!!
