PHOENIX -- Arizona Cardinals running back Jonathan Dwyer head-butted his wife and broke her nose after she refused his sexual advances, and punched her in the face the next day, police said Thursday.
The details surfaced Thursday in a law enforcement report a day after Dwyer was arrested on aggravated assault charges and deactivated from all team activities. He spent a night in jail and made a brief court appearance before being released early Thursday.
The arrest came at a time when the NFL and its commissioner are under fire over a series of violent off-the-field encounters involving some of the league's marquee players, including Ray Rice, Adrian Peterson and Greg Hardy. The Cardinals have deactivated Dwyer from all team activities.
Dwyer was arrested Wednesday for investigation in two altercations that occurred on July 21 and 22 at his Phoenix residence, just days before the Cardinals reported to training camp. His wife left the state after the incidents, but came forward a week ago after Dwyer apparently sent suicidal text messages including a photo of a knife.

The NFL may have a bit of an image problem. Not that men in other professions are not doing this as well, of course.

He must be one of the half-wits who insist that sex is necessary for the individual male to survive. I thought they were mythological until earlier this year...

And then there's that fact that she, or he, have the absolute right to not have sex.
Fucking dumbass. At least the Cardinals immediately deactivated him.

(44,576 posts)According to a court document, the first argument began the morning of July 21, when after a verbal argument with his wife at their Phoenix apartment, Dwyer allegedly tried to kiss his wife and remove her clothing. She told him to stop several times, and "when he continued, she bit the defendant's lip. He head-butted her in the face...A neighbor called police because of "the loud arguing," and when they arrived, Dwyer's wife told them that only she and her son were in the house...Dwyer acknowledged later that he was hiding in a bathroom at the time...
On July 22, there was another argument, and Dwyer punched his wife on the left side of her face, according to the court document. "He also began punching the walls, causing visible damage. The defendant then picked up a shoe and threw it, striking their 17-month-old son in the stomach...When his wife threatened to call police, Dwyer took her phone and threw it from their second-story residence..."
This is getting downright predictable -- throwing the cell phone is becoming a meme. One plea bargain, coming right up...

UPDATE: Looks like the joke's on me: Dwyer pleaded guilty and got 18 months probation plus community service.
