How firmly do you believe that most political questions have clear right and wrong answers?

Then I could say if it is most, least, or in the middle.

... but way too broad. Maybe it could be applied to specific issues one at a time. On many, there just isn't a legitimate "other side". But on some I can put myself in the shoes of the opposition to an extent.

only shortsighted people or fundamentalists believe there is a clear simple answer to all complex social questions.

Its rarely black and white. I am assuming your question does not apply to human rights or the like. For example, there is obviously a clear answer to violence against women, it is unacceptable and a crime.

For public policy questions (which is what I understood to be a "political question&quot , I believe it is not always clear. You can have a well defined set of beliefs and values and yet not agree with somebody with the same values on how to achieve it via political means.

Wouldn't be so many differing opinions either.

Right and wrong are human concepts that have changed however many times depending on the context of any given time and place. If there was a clear right and wrong, shit would be a lot easier.

there are rarely "perfect" answers to complex problems. There are usually multiple imperfect solutions to problems. There are also bad solutions. Compromise is agreeing to one of the imperfect solutions. Capitulation is agreeing to one of the bad ones.

It's all bread and circuses while the world burns.

I don't see anyone talking about banning fossil fuels. The only political question is how hard we should press down on the accelerator as we race down the road to hell. Is global warming real? Yes. Will more greenhouse gases in the atmosphere change the earth's climate in very unfavorable ways? Yes.

We even argue about physical realities like evolution.

Furthermore, too many political questions are unrelated to actual human rights issues.

The answers to these human rights questions are crystal clear, yet there remains factions that seek to cloud the issues for irrational reasons of selfishness, racism, misogyny, religion, etc.

Examples would be issues like the death penalty. Yes, innocent people are frequently executed when there is a death penalty.

Another example would be the right of homosexual couples to enjoy the same privileges of marriage heterosexual couples do. Yes, this is an obvious human right. What's the "political question?"

Here in the U.S.A. we still argue about social programs and regulations that are long proven effective in other nations; issues like universal medical care, welfare, and living wages. But we act as if there is still something to argue about, as if their are "two sides" to issues that are not two sided at all.

I would say 'many' have a clear answer, but we don't know what it is necessarily, until we try it. Then, if it works, we know we found the clear answer, and if it doesn't, we keep on looking.
