There is this undeveloped beach near Avila CA on the Central Coast. It is known as Pirates Cove. Just recently the Coastal Commission stopped San Luis Obispo county's attempt to "develop" the beach. We like it the way nature made it and are happy it will stay that way for a while yet.
It is also a clothing optional beach because there is no law in the area prohibiting nudity there. The cops leave it alone.
So that makes it the perfect place for college kids to bring their beer and weed and party.
This weekend was WOW weekend and upper class students brought hundreds of incoming freshmen to the breach to show them were to go to party down.
It was also beach clean up weekend and some students helped in the clean up.
I couldn't help but wonder if getting drunk and stoned on the beach has anything to do with the students prospects for after college. I think at least some if not a lot of them will be up to their ears in debt, unemployed and living with mom and dad in a few years. Party!

(22,271 posts)Visited there several times back in my younger wilder days I did. I wouldn't go to a nude beach today, though, even if I didn't have the 60-year-old body for one reason: cell phone cameras. Back then if they wanted to take a picture of you they'd have to stand way far back with high-powered lenses. If a person actually brought out a camera, he/she probably would have had it taken away. Today, your bare ass would probably end up all over the internet WITHOUT your permission.
As for the getting drunk and stoned having to do with debt, I doubt it. I went to college when it was virtually free (70's) and we still got drunk and stoned.

(22,271 posts)how anyone looked in the buff. Nobody really gave a shit. And showing up at a nude beach fully clothed? Wow! Double pity. It's quite a trek down there, not sure why you would go to all the trouble if you didn't want to take advantage of the nude beach. Ah well. Times change, I suppose. Sometimes for the better, sometimes not.

If they are topless they call it being boob naked.

(146,317 posts)Pirate's Cove is great. I remember taking class reading materials there on warm days in the Fall quarter and doing my studying while soaking up rays in the altogether. That was in my Freshman year in 1963. I dropped out the next year and then came back in 1970 to finish up. I still went to Pirate's cove on warm days to study.
Every year, a couple of morons fall off the cliff there, peering at nekkid people on the beach below through binoculars. I never understood why they didn't walk down to the beach, shuck off their clothes and observe at ground level. Maybe they were afraid their shortcomings would be obvious, I guess.
