I wonder how often the Secret Service actually has close calls?

Of course now random stories are coming out after Fence-Jumper Gate. Elevators with an armed former convicted felon...bullets bouncing off the White House and the SS tells agents to "stand down...", now someone in Poland snapped pics of Obama in the gym which could have easily been a gun versus a camera.

How many of these stories are regular occurrences I wonder? No POTUS, FLOTUS, VP, etc. has been hurt by an attempted assassin since Reagan. I can only imagine how many threats have been made especially against this administration.

I don't admire the Secret Service's job.

1. Jerry Ford had two close calls

and they were relatively close to each other. Yes, I imagine that the Secret Service has intensified its procedures during the last forty years, especially after 9/11, but that's what makes the stories we hear even more surprising.

I have a feeling that we rarely hear about their flubs. I don't think there are a lot of whistle-blowers who have gotten as far as Presidential detail.
