just insult because they are just nasty people. What can I say, Common sense seems to be missing when it comes to elections - they demand perfect candidates, and they just don't exist. Once in, start working on them, but until they are in, don't want no republican congress!!!!!

Yeah, I knew that already.
I just wanted to make my request and get it on the board, for the record.

Skinner used to enforce special rules during the election season that helped to tamp down some of the carping about Democrats here, but I guess that is not going to happen this year.

Ever notice how any calls for unity, or even a temporary moratorium on Dem-bashing, die a quick death?

This isn't really a call for unity, per se, but rather just a simple request to hold off on the Democrat bashing for a month.
Calls for peace like this are not rare in this turbulent world.
This is just a message board, I understand that . . so that's really all I am saying.

It's not really much of a request, really.
I'm not real popular here at DU, nor do I have any authority of any kind at this forum, and I am also not trying to draw attention to my topic by kicking it.
As if that ever really helped, in any case.

However, it has occurred to me that there are a lot of people here that have called the Democrats in Congress spineless, among other things, for several years now.
And yet, they can't take their own advice and do something positive when they have the opportunity to act.
Things like taking a break -- just before an election is held -- from all of the constant carping about the Democrats.

Habits are hard to break.
And I have found that bad habits are the hardest habits to break and to be replaced with good habits.
So, I don't make a habit of starting threads.
And I don't talk about just one subject, issue, or topic.

But, this election that is coming up, is the one we should be focused on like a laser.
"Vote or die" is not just a meme that someone can use to sell t-shirts anymore.
This is it.

If we don't act in the next month, if we don't win next month, if DU continues going down the same path they are going down now, then you can take a match to this forum.
Because the flamewars will start the moment the mid-term election results start coming in.

... any call for unity AND/OR a respite from Dem-Bashing never gains any traction.

That's because the majority of posters here are only here to be negative, to spout RW talking points under the guise of "criticizing" their own, to encourage others to see no difference between the parties, to discourage voting for Dems, and - first and foremost - to fight with everyone and anyone who dares support this President and this Party.

I no longer consider DU to be a "Democratic" site. It's just another political message board, and the SOP has become a joke.

I agree with you about the importance of the upcoming midterms - a lot of us do, and a lot of us want to see more Dems elected. But we are in the minority here.

So Dem bashing increases exponentially before elections. Some want to discourage dem voters, others just enjoy complaining.

Be wary of any DUer who spends more time attacking Dems instead of trying to elect more liberal dems. A lot of this happened during primary season too. At this point anyone who claims there's no difference between the parties really should be locked in a padded room with a strait jacket at least until the election is over.

... to bury the Democrats deep underground."

I often wonder what the reaction is when someone finds DU for the first time. They go to the Home page, see endless negative Dem-bashing posts, all surrounded by "Impeach Obama" ads, or ads for RW books, films, etc.

Surely a lot of them must immediately think that "DemocraticUnderground" is a satire site, where RWers come to post anti-Dem snark while pretending to be "true progressives".

Now is the time to focus on GOTV instead of attacking fellow Dems. Hope our fellow DUers heed your message.
