They will start claiming they paid for it themselves.

First US Ebola Patient Dies
Thomas A. Duncan, who became ill with Ebola after arriving from West Africa in Dallas two weeks ago, succumbed to the virus today (Sunday), reports Reuters. Duncan was fighting for his life at a Dallas hospital on today after his condition worsened to critical, according to the director of the US Centers for Disease Control.
The Dallas hospital that admitted him did not recognize the deadly disease at first and sent him home, only for him to return two days later by ambulance.

However... there's nothing on Reuters website claiming that.

(31,893 posts)So rumors from FR can start spreading on DU, too?
I wish you would self-delete this. I can't see that it serves any positive purpose.
If Duncan dies, it WILL be all over the news from actual trustworthy sources.

By Lisa Maria Garza and Sharon Begley
DALLAS / NEW YORK - The first person diagnosed with Ebola in the United States was fighting for his life at a Dallas hospital and appeared not to be receiving any of the experimental medicines for the virus.

(14,881 posts)not quite the same as announcing he's lost the fight.
They said the same thing about each of the other patients. But Brantly, Writebol and Sacra never got so critical that they couldn't give them the experimental treatments.

(38,018 posts)it's best to check local sources. No Dallas news entity has reported such a story.

(13,869 posts)Again, while this story could easily break in the direction of what Israel National News reported Ebola throughout this outbreak has had anywhere from a 20 percent to 90 percent mortality rate, and there is no known cure in spite of successful experimental treatments which Duncan has not received its currently a rumor. Therefore, if you see it circulating on your Facebook feed, make sure you proceed with caution.
Unfortunately, rumors and misinformation have been rampant since the Dallas Ebola outbreak.
In fact, one such rumor that people in Kentucky were coming down with the Ebola virus has since been debunked.
The internet and in particular, social media is just too fast of a method for false information to spread, and you should probably expect more of it in the coming days, as the CDC and other healthcare officials work to contain the virus in Dallas.

(32,102 posts)but there are plenty of repugs up there so maybe someone has a source at the hospital. I wouldn't rule it out necessarily. I did read over the weekend that they were not going to try any of the experimental treatments and Dallas Presbyterian is not a research hospital. I can't imagine that they are taking any extraordinary measures to try to save him.

(14,881 posts)They have made a point of saying in the past that they don't know whether they helped, hindered or had no impact on the patients they have been tried on.
Iirc, the oldest (and presumably weakest) patient died even with Zmapp. I vaguely remember it being a Spanish doctor...
A second experimental drug, made by Canada's Tekmira Pharmaceuticals Corp, can be quite difficult for patients to take, he said, adding that the doctor and the patient's family would decide whether to use it.
As far as we understand, experimental medicine is not being used, Dr Frieden said. It's really up to his treating physicians, himself, his family what treatment to take.
