Right-Wingers In NC Public Schools Indoctrinating Children With Bible Classes

http://crooksandliars.com/2014/10/right-wingers-nc-public-schools

The Freedom From Religion Foundation says that the Rowan-Salisbury School District in North Carolina "must immediately drop" Bible classes offered in three of its elementary schools - classes the FFRF says are unconstitutional.

The classes, 45-minute weekly sessions - are held during regular school hours and on school grounds, but are funded by local church groups.

FFRF lawyer Patrick Elliott said in a press release that, "It is appalling that the District would take away from instructional time to indoctrinate children in Christian dogma." He added, "The district's ill-advised decision to offer elementary bible classes calls into question the legitimacy of the bible classes also being taught in the middle schools and high school."...

Students are not required to participate in the classes, but the FFRF says that is a nonissue because "suggesting that children who do not wish to be subjected to religious activity at their school should be segregated from their classmates is reprehensible."

! NC was making real strides toward rejoining the union (in a meaningful sense) before McCrony and Pope the Dope started ruining everything.

Kids leaning towards the Biblical side of life surely have Sunday school,Bible study etc. Every time they have another class for bible puts them further behind in their life long careers(unless they become preachers etc). School should never be for non educational subjects. Granted the Biblical community feel this is learning but don't they have enough time after school?

These religious Teahadists would be absolutely furious if an Islamic, Buddhist, Hindu, Satanist, or any other religious group began offering similar classes in these schools.

That frets about being seen as different. No better senerio exists for religious opportunists to speed their propaganda. Factor in the extra sprinkles of having the tax payers paying for their recruitment efforts, and the perfect con game.
