From Billy Bob Thornton:
"Paul Revere was one of the kindest men I ever met. He had such interest in people and enthusiasm for life. I am so happy I had the opportunity to get to know him, as he was a big part of my youth. Paul Revere and the Raiders were on TV or on the record player around our house all the time. When I went to his home I was made to feel as welcome as a family member. When I asked if it would be possible to see a Raiders jacket or hat, he disappeared into the house and not only came out fully dressed in an entire Raiders outfit, but also gave me one. I am a proud owner of one of Paul's Raiders outfits, complete with a tri-corner hat. I still stare at it like it can't be real. But it is. And that's what Paul was. Real."

(53,339 posts)I saw Paul Revere and the Raiders 12 or 13 years ago and besides playing their hits they also did covers of other era hits--Rolling Stones, CCR, Animals, Beach Boys, etc. and they were GOOD.
And you gotta love Paul. He was a great showman and funny as hell. I think his humor reflected his positive attitude toward life and the good will he he had toward others. He will be missed.

(18,837 posts)...a cover of The Animals' "I'm Cryin'," sung by guitarist Phil "Fang" Volk. This album was unusual because the other band members took turns on lead vocals. Volk really goes for the Eric Burdon thing here.

(4,138 posts)I had no idea who he was (this was in the 80s, so long past his time in the spotlight), but the name interested me because of the historical reference. Later when I discovered the whole 60s PNW garage-rock scene, I realized that I had met the guy in the crazy colonial getup before.
I remember him as being an incredibly energetic performer, even for a group of kids in a stuffy modular classroom. Very friendly and patient with questions too.
