Damn. My very conservative friend just nailed it, re: the new shooting in MO

This is his quote,

"I looked in the published police manual and it said 'the very nature of a pedestrian stop renders it dangerous.' Really? Because panhandlers manage to speak to pedestrians dozens of times every day without anyone getting shot."

I disagree with nearly everything he ever says, but on this matter we're on the same page...

He's voted independent, libertarian, or conservative/moderate Democrat his whole life. He has nothing but contempt for the GOP.

Like ISIS members who hide their identities with a mask, republicans hide by saying they are libertarian or independent. I don't blame them, they're ashamed for being stupid.

"Libertarian," for too many people I've seen and heard from, is just a safe word to use to describe that you're really a republi-CON, but you just don't want to admit it.

most of the violence falls short of getting shot, though i'm sure that happens as well.

part of the reason a police pedestrian stop is dangerous is because the police have that power to radically alter the course of the pedestrian's life in a heartbeat. even people who have never don't anything remotely illegal know that misunderstandings and mistaken identities happen, never mind what the sight of a gun can do to people. any time the police stop someone, they're scaring them, and scared people can do stupid things.

so, yeah, it's dangerous, but that has much to do with the police, doesn't it?

Why are they not driving like most people? Why would someone walk if they can ride? Walking on the sidewalk seems to be even more suspicious.

Being a pedestrian is "reasonable cause" to be stopped and harassed.

I have noticed that it is even more likely if you are walking while female.

Disclaimer: Since I made it known that I am carrying a camera and recorder I have not been deemed suspicious.
