Glad you're here! It's a HUMDINGER of a campaign commercial. Evidently put forward by a Democratic-leaning outfit called the Agenda Project:

http://agendaproject.org/what_we_do.html

Man, I'm gonna watch these people. They just hit one all the way to Mars. It occurred to me that if I have to narrow the focus of my campaign donations - since there's no way I can afford to support every campaign, candidate, and worthy cause/organization that I wish I could, a group like THIS is what to support. If we can win decisively on the propaganda war front, maybe a lot of those individual campaigns and causes and candidates and organizations might be furthered - anyway. Just systemically.

THIS is the kind of one-minute spot that "catapults the propaganda" in the OTHER direction, for a change - the way WE want it to go. It goes straight for the jugular of the whole republi-CON/reagan era world view - how government is only there to cut. Gummnt BAAAAAD. Starve the beast. Shrink it down so small you can drown it in - well, a puddle of Ebola. Happy NOW, grover norquist? All we've heard for the past 30+ years is cut cut cut, more cuts more cuts more cuts. Cuts in funding and tax cuts for the rich which are all financed by still MORE cuts in funding. No government! Government bad! Government off your back! Cut it back! Cut it back! And then cut it back some more! And unfortunately, sometimes it's with a myopic meat-axe like the sequester, and you get thoughtless, reckless, short-sighted, idiotic cuts, penny-wise/pound-EXTREMELY-foolish cuts and the NIH and CDC daring to point out that we might have had a vaccine for this scary new disease by now if it wasn't all about cuts cuts cuts cuts cuts and more cuts in research funding - over a DECADE...

That's the the mindset, the thinking (the STINKING thinking) that has to be reversed. Shut down. Done AWAY with. We have to take our fellow citizens' BRAINS back. Their thinking and reasoning. They've been conditioned and brainwashed into this shit being gooo-ooood. And look what's happened!

Let's see, as long as we're at it, what else?
There might be more staffers at these hospitals, to better spread and facilitate the "buddy system" approach to protecting health care workers from exposure to virus.
Texas is getting to be just fine with gravel roads. GRAVEL roads!
Our infrastructure is slowly but surely deteriorating - that means bridges, highways, and city streets.
We still have levees needing attention. Forgot Katrina so soon? This could become even more critically important in the years ahead, as global warming promotes more melting of the polar caps and a rise in ocean levels.
Our children are going hungry.
Our infant mortality is up.
Our youth can't afford college, loans are sky high, and programs to assist are always on the endangered species list.
Our state budgets can't absorb the problems that come from tornadoes, floods, hurricanes, wild and catastrophic and increasingly unpredictable weather conditions, droughts, algae blooms, toxic dumps, freak explosions, mudslides, landslides, forest fires, oil spills, lightening strikes, and other problems, let alone Ebola. And what about that other virus now, too?
Our poor are falling farther behind with fewer resources to help them.
Our health care infrastructure is strained to the max as privatizing encourages cuts in staffing so those left on the job have to do more with less.
Our post offices are in the cross-hairs.
Let's sneer at the exhorbitant folly of studying volcanos - until a big one blows up unexpectedly in Europe and cripples the airline industry first on that continent and soon enough, across the globe. RIGHT, bobby jindal?
Hospitals can't stay open.

We could go on all night like this, listing all the stuff.

Penny-wise, POUND-FOOLISH!!!

We have to roll THAT back. THAT is what has to change. THAT is what has to be --- wait for it --- CUT.

Otherwise we can never really hope to see many decent candidates voted into office or causes advanced or policy issues gain higher priority. We have to change the public mindset. We have to ruin the GOP brand. Truly. We have to shit on THEIR brand. Make it stink to high heaven! Turn it into something that people speak about with a curled lip (the way the bad guys DID do quite a hose job on the word "liberal&quot .

MAN, is this EVER a case of attacking somebody at their strength (kkkarl rove's favorite strategy).

This needs to run on every TV station in America. And this needs to be - just the beginning.

89. Thought of another one: "REVERSE THE CURSE!"
Tue Oct 14, 2014, 12:16 PM
Oct 2014

The "CURSE" is the legacy of ronald reagan. With it, we are CURSED. America is CURSED. We are dealing with a curse that's worse than ANY Ebola affliction. And it's spread faster and farther than even Ebola has. It has infected our country for THIRTY YEARS. Study the Powell Memo to see how they did it, how the curse began, how they spread it, how they nurtured it and grew it and helped it spread like the cancer it's become.

http://reclaimdemocracy.org/powell_memo_lewis/

This Agenda Project ad is the first offensive move I've seen, coming from ANYWHERE in our side, that attempts to address the underlying foundation of what's happened, the underlying greed and willful short-sightedness, and what (and how) the GOP is fucking this country for the sake of a very elitist and uber-wealthy few. It needs to be said, read, and SPREAD!!!

THIS is how we fight. THIS is how we fight back. THIS is how we smack the enemy across the teeth with a fucking radioactive poison-tipped 2x4. THIS is how mean, nasty, ruthlessly, and take-no-prisoners-aggressively we HAVE TO fight, at this point, if we're gonna save this country. I'm gonna do everything I can to help and to spread the word.

Blaming people's deaths on political decisions - that's just so mean (when Democrats do it). Where's the balance? Why don't they talk about how many jobs were created by the budget cuts? Why don't they talk about how the tax dollars for research might involve fetal stem cells, which would encourage abortion (somehow), and then those slutty-slut-sluts would just have more sex so they could have more unwanted pregnancies, and then they could have more abortions? Not even one word about fat lesbians, either!

84. IRS Form 1120 - corp tax - shows the tax-cutters to be liars
Tue Oct 14, 2014, 10:22 AM
Oct 2014

Tax cuts increase the final net corporate profit that goes to stockholders. Tax increases reduce the final net profit. It is clearly obvious on the tax form:

http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f1120.pdf

(Hope this link works all right - I've never done this before.)

On the other hand, the more a corporation pays out in salaries and wages, the lower is its taxable income. So a lower tax is paid. Profits are less. Just the opposite of what happens when there are tax cuts.

Ask a Republican to explain it. I surely must be mistaken.

93. Kind of the right idea but not really
Tue Oct 14, 2014, 02:16 PM

The RW theory: if the government gives a company a tax cut, the company will spend its new benevolence on hiring.

And if the government gives the rich a tax cut, companies that report taxes on their owners' personal tax forms will spend their benevolence on hiring.

Reality: Businesses create jobs (as opposed to replacing workers who quit, died or whatever) for one reason only: there's more work than current staff can handle. They don't hire people who will have nothing to do, which is what the "tax cuts create jobs" meme suggests.

Before we go on, there was one tax cut that did create jobs: Kennedy's. He backed us out of wartime taxation at the dawn of the machine age. The cut was simultaneously large enough to allow serious private investment to happen - and small enough to let the government go on shooting men into outer space and covering the nation with four-lane divided highways. The conditions surrounding that cut will never happen again.

The government is the biggest consumer in America, and their spending has three distinguishing marks: they spend in the private sector, they buy American and they buy a lot. The government doesn't buy a car - they buy ten thousand of them. They don't buy a can of beans, they buy four truckloads. Government spending causes shifts to be added at factories. And tax cuts stifle this beneficial spending. Go through the government's U3 and U6 stats: every time there's a tax cut, unemployment rises.

The far right claims an individual can spend his money better than the government can. Wrong answer: not even the Walton family can buy enough cars to make Ford add a night shift, but the government does it every year.

Since they don't hire with tax cuts, you may wonder what corporations do with these riches bestowed by the benevolent feds. In many cases, they use them to trash the economy. Corporations invest, and in many cases they invest in the Mitt Romneys of the world. In others, they buy companies themselves. Ever wonder why there hasn't been a new brand of anything but craft beer in years? A long time ago, a company that wanted to sell sausages would hire a sausage chef, dream up a name and build a factory. Now they buy out another company, fire the workers and move the sausage machine into their own factory.Jobs are lost and communities devastated.

Responsible government spending, which is the majority of it, does more for the economy as a whole than tax cuts can.

If all the Democratic Senators voted to support Pres Obama's nomination, we would have a Surgeon General. But the votes don't follow party lines. The votes follow ideology lines.

Which many here still decry as right wing even though it objectively paves the way for single payer.

So your concern is noted, but I'm not going to compromise with Republicans, thanks.

81. Good point. It wasn't just Republicans that prevented Single Payer, it was Conservatives,

Conservatives in both parties.

We would have a Surgeon General except that the conservatives from both parties are opposing our Democrat President's nomination. The Republicans alone couldn't stop confirmation and should share blame with those DINOs that are choosing to side with the Republican Party and against the Democratic President.

Let me put it another way. Some so-called Democrats are standing hand-in-hand with the Republicans and giving a thumbs down to our President and you want to only blame the Republicans. No blame for those Democrats that vote the same as Republicans.

Conservatives are who we are fighting. Conservatives support the 1% and are killing the Democratic Party.

Finally-someone "puts it out there"-you know-the Raw, Blunt and Painful Truth.

If anyone challenges the accuracy of this ad-I'm gonna give them these links to allow them the opportunity to see the public records themselves-their Voting records. It's the least I can do...the whiners will come.

Wait Republicans have no sense and are universally partisan hacks which is required to remain a Republican. I doubt though for those who vote for Republicans very many have the ability to link budget cuts to the CDC and NIH (add no Surgeon General) to a threat to public health.
