Today in the American and National Leagues every player in every game is wearing uniform number 42.

That was Jackie Robinson's number who, 65 years ago today, stepped on the field as the first African American to play Major League baseball.

It took a great amount of courage and character to endure the abuse leveled at him by players and fans. He did it with dignity and class.

...but Robinson was completely safe, he got the corner of the plate before Berra could apply the tag.

He stopped by to visit the museum and Yogi happened to be there. He asked Yogi if Robinson was really out. Yogi was a little miffed about the question and told our friend, "He was still out!".

A gift for Obama from baseball legend Yogi Berra: a photo of the Brooklyn Dodgers’ Jackie Robinson coming in safe after stealing home during a 1955 World Series game against Berra and the Yankees. Berra wrote “Dear Mr. President, He was out!” and signed his name in blue pen.

When I was just a kid baseball was where it was, not much talk about football except for the local teams but baseball was all over the radio the whole summer it seemed. I remember that there were a lot of discussions of Jackie Robinson. At the time I didn't get what all the fuss was about and hell I still don't understand what the big deal was/is. People are people and we come in all colors and flavors but we're all human.
If I was asked today what trait in some people is it that pisses me off the most I would have to answer racism. I don't fucking get it

The history of warfare is similarly subdivided though here the phases are retribution, anticipation, and diplomacy.

Thus, retribution: “I’m going to kill you because you killed my brother.”

Anticipation: “I’m going to kill you because I killed your brother.”

And diplomacy: “I’m going to kill my brother and then kill you on the pretext that your brother did it.”

From 1978, well before 9/11, Iraq, etc. etc.
