Opinions on Frontier as an internet provider

Frontier has purchased the entire land line phone, internet and cable business from AT&T in the state of Connecticut. As of Oct 24, I'll be a Frontier customer. Anyone have experience with them?

Frontier gets OK to buy AT&T landline business
The state Public Utilities Regulatory Authority gave final approval Wednesday to the $2 billion sale of AT&’s landline, broadband and television businesses in Connecticut to Frontier Communications Corp.

The approval, which had been backed by state officials, consumers and AT&T union workers, comes with a promised investment of more than $63 million in improved broadband Internet services and assurances that Frontier would not increase basic residential rates for at least three years. In addition, low-income veterans will be given a $19.99 basic broadband package, a savings of $15 from the current rate.

The deal came with the blessing of the Communications Workers of America Local 1298, which has been critical of AT&T’s business practices and attention to service.

“From the very beginning, Frontier has been fair and upfront with the CWA and its leadership, which led to a labor agreement that has substantial benefits for both our members and the company,” Bill Henderson, union president, said in a statement. “We welcome the opportunity to partner with Frontier to provide extraordinary service to our customers and neighbors.”

Frontier acquired other landline companies in various areas, such as Verizon's in Washington. It's standard service plant with fiber in some areas. In other words, you shouldn't see much difference.

What irks me in this press release, though, is their "special discounted rate" for "low income veterans." Why the distinction? It has been standard practice for a long time to provide low-cost "life line" rates to anyone who is poor. I guess they can eliminate most of that class of customer's eligibility by tacking on the "veteran" part.

fine until I bought a Roku device. While Roku did work 'ok' for the mainstream streamers, many channels I watched had continuous 'bufferering' issues, i.e. foreign news, youtube, etc.

I switched begrudgingly, to comcast.

If you are looking for just web browser without a lot of streaming, Frontier is just fine.

Can't remember many problems; they even worked with me on rolling out IPv6 to that site. No idea about their residential service, but at least their business side is decent.
