$3.57 per gallon by my house! Lowest I've seen it in years! How much is it by you?

Either way, we know this is short term because we refuse to consider alternative, renewable energy.

(130,895 posts)but $3.2? elsewhere. $3.57 is LOW? We'd have a revolution here, in MD/DC!

(9,748 posts)I am misunderstanding. Or you misstated.
I had just moved to the north side of Indianapolis before election day 1984. So I was still registered to vote where I grew up in southern Indiana. After voting I drove back to Indy. I hit the south side of Indy just as the polls were closing.
In 1984 gas prices, OPEC embargo, etc of the '70s were still very prevalent in people's minds. And I noticed a few weeks before Reagan's re-election that prices had really come down a lot. As I was approaching Indy every gas station I passed was changing their signs. I continued seeing this for my entire drive straight through the city to the north side. They were all raising prices. Just after the polls closed.
Every single one of them without exception. It was so in-your-face blatant they had lowered prices for a few weeks just to make Reagan look good. And nobody cared. He was the Teflon President then just as he seems to be now.

(628 posts)Especially in the Midwest. We also have a FERQ going after oil speculators finally.
Low gas equals happy people and no need to go to the polls to vote against the lazy so and so's. Just my guess but I expect gas to go up after the election. We'll see.
As you say, it's not a new trick. We are robbed right in front of our eyes by this price fixing.

(11,417 posts)exporting oil taken from shale by fracking. The Saudis are keeping oil production high to put pressure on American companies whose cost of fracking is higher than the Saudis cost of production. They want to see how low the price per barrel will have to go before the fracking companies call it quits.

(247 posts)Gas prices in San Luis Obispo, California have come down considerably. Prices here are usually near the highest in the state. I remember paying $4.50+ in 2008.
I oppose fracking. I do like lower gas prices. Fear and strongly oppose the possibility of fracking locally in the Monterey Formation. Hope Santa Barbara County voters successfully pass their anti-fracking initiative which could lead to 10,000 new wells if it fails.

(11,065 posts)$3.57 for a gallon of gas is just as ridiculous as it would have been before Katrina and quite some time afterward people still were pissed off about the price of gas. By now we've just gotten accustomed to the ridiculously high prices that have never come down to anything close to pre-Katrina levels.
This is nothing to celebrate. And you can bet your last dime we aren't ever going to see gas prices down to pre-Katrina levels.

How low will it go? Dunno. How long will it stay there? Probably until the second week of November.

(12,081 posts)I wish I could afford to buy a Prius right now. The best time to buy a hybrid is when gas prices are low.
And because I buy at a station that doesn't charge extra for credit card purchases, I get 3% back from the credit card.

No, I don't buy gas in NY, I work in NJ, and it's fifty cents cheaper there.
