Today on Real Time with Bill Maher it was mentioned that before the ACA women in 9 states could be denied insurance if they were victims of domestic violence. It was considered a preexisting condition. I was completely shocked. JESUS CHRIST.........

The Republicans want to return us to that so they can make higher dividends.

(34,069 posts)The medical costs associated with domestic violence are not something an insurance company would willingly pick up - and prior to ACA, they pretty much got to pick and choose who and what they picked up.

Its the folks who had to deal with the grim nightmare that is the individual insurance market that are the biggest benefactors, plus those who couldn't afford it before and can now because of the subsidies and exchanges and Medicaid expansion. The individual market really didn't serve anyone much at all before the ACA due to all the pre-existing conditions, lifetime caps, and other restrictions. And the blue states that did regulate it before, had very high prices due to the lack of an individual mandate.
More Americans have more coverage for more conditions than any time in our country's history.
