CORNELIUS, N.C. -- Toll lanes on I-77 the DOT says they're coming but many voters don't like them.
There have been protests and organized opposition from a group called Widen I-77 as well as from some local elected officials in Huntersville, Cornelius, Davidson and Mooresville.
Thom Tillis supports the toll lanes. He has for years. In a May 2011 televised interview on Carolina Business Review, Tillis told interviewer Steve Crump, "I think we have to take a serious look at toll roads
we don't have enough money coming in for the needs we have."
Now the NBC Charlotte I-Team has documented that a group of big time Tillis campaign contributors stands to make millions from your tax dollars tied to the toll lanes.

This story is a must read - there is another RW Amway-style fascist group involved and Donald Trump has been acting as their spokesman for years. This probably explains why Trump also turned so hard against Obama - political theatrics to serve a greater fascist agenda. They have a targeted audience of VOTERS who they need to keep duped.

Why would any politician be associated with these characters (but of course, they have more money than god).
And with these people purchasing an elected official, one would think the voters would see what they are getting.

Then again, I-77 should have been 8 lanes from at least Mooresville (Race City USA) to Rock Hill by now (SC done their part w/1% LO sales tax) and I-485 a complete loop (this yr. maybe). Living in this county, the only way I would support a toll lane is to widen US 21 to a 4-lane arterial throughout the Lake region to Harris Blvd/Northlake to provide a free option, the current US 21 or NC 115 is two lane and town center traffic.

(113,061 posts)first and crying poor so can government can't address the problem is how GOP has been operating for the last few decades. Bottomless bank accounts for wars and tax breaks for the financial elite, nothing left for programs that benefit the rest of us and make this country run more efficiently.

(22,666 posts)Well just maybe you should NOT have cut taxes asshole! Particularly for the wealthiest in NC and corprats. NOW you want drivers to pay for roads that those tax dollars otherwise might have - (in addition to increased taxes for those drivers), so your goddamned friends can get richer while *they* pay less in taxes.
Really. Turd. Monumental TURD.

(1,587 posts)Sad to say, this state is going to have to burn before people come to their senses. Once it's been ruined for the average citizen, then somebody will have to come along and try to build it back up. I doubt it will happen any time soon.
My home state, gone to hell without the hand basket.
