What current politician says he doesn't want poor people to vote? Hint: He isn't from a red state.

What current politician says he doesn't want poor people to vote? Hint: He isn't from a red state that’s erected photo ID requirements, reduced or eliminated early voting, required excuses for absentee voting, made it harder to register, imposed long wait-times for voting, or come up with last-minute changes in polling places that aren’t communicated to voters.

Answer: Leung Chun-ying, the Beijing-appointed leader of Hong Kong. At least he's honest about his motives. In America, voter suppression is being justified as a way to prevent voter fraud, even though there’s no evidence of fraud. Another difference is the people of Hong Kong are mounting the biggest protests in that city-state’s history, risking their lives to vote and preserve their democracy. Here in America we’re letting Republican-dominated states get away with massive voter suppression, and barely making a fuss about it. Why?
