I remember in 2004, that one event (of many) that hurt Kerry's numbers were the attacks in Russia on an elementary school by Chechkens. The reason -- it resonated with the Bush kept us safe people.

I was actually thinking that Kobane holding (though it could still fall) and ebola running out of new stories, could create a swing back to Obama. This could - as another scary story - help the Republicans. This even though the Canadian government is Conservative.
