TPM Article Likely Voters Want GOP Senate Control - Are You Frigging Kidding Me?

The latest TPM article about voter preference is really disturbing. The fact that voters supposedly want the GOP to control the Senate is absolutely deranged. And the other part of the poll that women are moving toward the GOP is even more insane. WTF is wrong with this country. It looks like key voters are ready to turn the country over to its executioners.

When you look at the KOCH agenda about abolishing Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid and the GOP ending contraception with personhood and then turning the country over to the Churches it is unthinkable about the GOP running things. And what is even worse when you hear that the GOP wants to send divisions of troops back to Iraq it makes you want to scream.

I am simply stunned by what it looks like is happening. The GOP will further devastate this country. And jobs and wages will just about completely deflate under GOP control.

The way I see it is that the mad dog anti Obama media and all the racist hatred has just about totally blinded this country.

1. I try to look at polls objectively but I don't believe it

I watched tweety for about five minutes last night (never watch him - he's obnoxious) - and he starts popping off about 'security' and how women want security and a few of these incidents (terror) and we want . . .

I think that poll is off. Would be interesting to see where they landed in the Cantor race. That would tell us a great deal about their accuracy and data.

brainwashes the folks to contentedly eat pink slime and buy pet rocks.

The power of media, the power of propaganda, some have no idea how powerful TV ads are, especially when there are no holds barred, when there is no limit to the propaganda.

Once long ago the media were the Guardians of truth, of democracy, now just another tool in the propaganda tool box.

4. I think a lot has to do with "The grass is greener" scenario

The majority of voters don't pay a lot of attention to politics. We on DU are obviously very passionate...as are some of the assholes on the far right. But I think most people who just get up, go to work, etc. don't pay much attention...which is a damned shame. I think most people think "Gee, maybe it's time for the other side to be in charge for awhile."

I am thrilled Obama will be present for the next two years to veto all the stupid shit the right will blast at him. Dems usually perform much better in national Presidential elections. If we lose the Senate this year, I feel confident we can win both the Presidency and the Senate back in 2016. Who knows...maybe even take the House back.

8. Then why not opt for Democratic control of the House?

I think we are underestimating how (warranted or not) unpopular Obama has become. It's stupid as fuck, but apparently, America is a stupid as fuck country.

Come on America, vote Blue for your future! History will judge what we do in two weeks...

11. Implying that most people who don't vote the way we want are stupid

is definitely not a winning message, and such an attitude might help explain the poll results. Also note that given the numbers, many of the people who voted for Obama probably simultaneously support Republican control of the Senate.

I'm a lifelong, loyal Democrat, but I'm perfectly aware that many intelligent people of character do not agree with my views. I try to convince them otherwise and encourage them to vote differently. I do not imply that there's something wrong with them or that they're stupid.

I would also note that historically control of the presidency and houses of congress change hands with relative frequency. This implies that the American people are generally dissatisfied with both political parties, and to a lesser extent, actually like divided government as a check on the policies of both Democrats and Republicans. Despite the energy of activists for both parties, Americans tend to have more divided and nuanced views on many issues we find important, and are more politically moderate that we acknowledge or prefer. As a result, I find the poll entirely unsurprising.

5. Jobs and wages...

... already deflated. That is the problem. Do you really think the GOP could do worse in that area? I don't. They'll do worse in UE benefits and the like perhaps, and a lot worse on the social issues but some people like that.

Stop looking at the IDIOTIC unemployment numbers and look at what is actually happening. tens of millions of people have given up all hope of ever finding a job. the total number of people actually working in jobs is around the 1978 level. huge numbers of people who want full time work can only find part time, but the gov't stats say they are "employed". people who lost their jobs late in the last decade have had to take jobs paying way less.

these things aren't necessarily the Dem's fault, but they have had the presidency and the senate for years and people living real lives know that the economic situation is still bad. so they are ready to give the other idiots a try. for the life of me I don't get what is so hard to understand about this, politics have ALWAYS punished the party in power when things are not going well. and as soon as you look past the blatant lie about employment, you will see that things are still not doing well.

10. The short answer is yes, they could do much worse

Public policy is what will stimulate job and wage growth and the GOP exists to frustrate just that. They are the party of ownership profit, which is at an all-time high. Their solution to jobs and wages? More cowbell for the owners. Would that the Democrats put them on the defensive for it, but a big part of the problem is an unwillingness for people to think for themselves.

They've been working on it since January 2009, so of course they'll continue to beat the drums for a couple more weeks.

12. The poll of "likely voters" for midterm elections are older, whiter and more conservative

than likely voters in Presidential years.

That explains why the GOP is favored this year by these likely voters.

In 2 years, the pool of likely voters will be younger, more racially diverse and more liberal.

15. The key is "Likely Voters"

That means they're applying their guess of who's going to show up to vote. They assume liberals will stay home.

Don't want it to happen? Then show that their "Likely Voter" model was wrong. Vote, and drag every single person you can to the polls with you.
