Post: Show me someone who would be turned off voting due to a negative email, and I'll show you someone who never intended to vote in the first place
Reply: Same thing with someone who would be turned off voting due to negative posts on a web site

...for the Win.
Here in NH, I am keenly looking forward to voting against Scott Brown for the third time in four years, because he followed me North a year ago, and I desperately want him to go away.
If you think the critical posts I and others have offered recently are an effort to suppress turnout, you're missing the point with genuinely comic velocity.
Or, in short, what Doctor_J said.

(80,708 posts)I think the bottom line is, there are a number of devotees here of what I call the Wile E. Coyote school of physics- like, damn you for pointing out that there's no cliff underneath me, because now I'm gonna fall, Jerk.

(27,787 posts)But you add to an endless right wing media attack on Dems.
So when the average dem watches tv, they see Dems attacked. They go to a dem website, Dems are attacked.
The right attacks Dems, and supports the GOP.
Our voters get discouraged, theirs get angry.
Tell me, do you think your endless criticism (and it is endless) helps our GOTV efforts?
Or do you think it exists in some parallel universe?

(285 posts)Because the opponent is hypercritical about fake shortcomings?
If that is the collective level of Democratic intelligence then we should be ashamed of ourselves.
And appointing Ebola Czars because the right purposely freaks out is exactly this sort of low level thinking. If you're not going to ferociously point out the blocking of the SG nomination, can't you at least appoint him the Czar so as to smack the right across their collective faces?

(62,325 posts)with our Party? Are you SERIOUS? Why do you care so much about what the Right does?
Would you allow your child to behave badly because other people have criticized his/her behavior, or would be act like a responsible parent and teach your child what they are doing wrong, tell them it is no acceptable behavior, ensure that they respect YOU as a parent, and help them to grow up to be responsible human beings?
Your notion that a politician who is behaving badly regarding extremely important issues should be given a pass because he is on 'our team' and because he is being attacked, just as THEY ARE by our side, by the OTHER team, is so damaging a practice that I can't understand why anyone would even suggest it.
Good luck expecting working people to ignore such things as 'cuts to SS' or 'letting the Wall St criminals off the hook after many of THEM were VICTIMS of those crooks. It just isn't going to happen.

I think secretly they worship the ground you walk on.
You know, one of those love/hate relationships!

(53,339 posts)And google the Dem Party for your county to get downballot endorsements so your blank vote won't give the Tea Party inroads into the local positions they target.
Sorry, Will.

(45,120 posts)I don't care what anyone says about the Democrats running. Call then whatever you want paint pictures of them in clown suits and a poster can post they saw them put their dogs on their cars, it don't fucking matter. I'm gonna go out there and fucking vote for that Democrat. I'm not gonna give them one fucking red cent but I'll vote for them, even if I don't want to.

You know Brown misses those centerfold days. Give him a run for his money.

(7,549 posts)but I am still going out to vote for him, as I certainly don't want Astorino, who'd be far worse.

(36,392 posts)I still wouldn't vote for him, or fail to vote for his opponent schauer, if you paid me. A vote for ANY republican is a vote for insane, malignant psychopaths.

(2,548 posts)I ALWAYS vote, no matter my personal frustrations with spineless center right alleged democratic candidates. If Ronald Reagan were alive today he would be a democrat, Nah, but maybe. Anyone who fails to vote for any reason is by default casting a vote for the opposition. I cannot wait til I can go to the polls and cast my ballot to rid my state of Scott Walker. He is an anethma to moral, ethical and honest Wisconsinites. He believes of himself To be the political reincarnation of Ronny Raygun. The only thing he has in common with Reagan is the propensity to criminal activity, especially in giving political appointments to criminally inclined cohorts and fellow conspirators , indicted or not, convicted or not. Vote, it is the only weapon the wing nuts fear, your ballot is the bullet that will take down the right wing extremist agenda, one ballot at a time until it becomes an avalanche sweeping them and their idiocratic crap into the dust bin where it belongs.

(84,711 posts)for Mid-Term 2014 on it's OWN.
It's a Message Board where it "was thought" Democrats of all stripes could feel free to come and discuss ISSUES relevant to the Party.
Well...that's been gone awhile...but, some of us still try to do that and abide by the rules.
But, Now it's "Attack Time." And if Dems Lose the Senate ...Watch and See.. There will a backlash here ..Blaming DU and it's Posters SOLELY for Losing the Election because "Long Time DEMS" were sending a message to OUR Party that the SPAMMING was OTT Obnoxious and we thought the Message Spamming was a Turn Off and we didn't think it was a good action by the Party to Brow Beat folks for 3 to 5'$ in the last days of the campaign when the money was already allocated and what we give (at this late date in Campaign Season) only pays postage and phone bills left over.
DU doesn't Rule the Dem Party it's a place where Dems can gather to "Share Feelings and Engage in Discussion" about Democratic issues. To blame people who post here for being Solely Responsible for Election Results is really bizarre.
And Negative Spamming by whomever the Dem Party...DSCC, DCCC hired to send those dire messages reeking of juvenile mentality should be FIRED. And, Thank You and others for speaking up about it.

(62,325 posts)voters IF Dems lose because they are going to get an earful if they even try. So sick of the deceptions, the pretense that it was Dems who stayed home in 2008, the refusal to face facts, the Independents do not feel the same obligation to vote for Third Way/Blue Dogs that Dems often do and that is why they lost, they TOLD US that the BLUE DOGS were the problem, EVERY TIME we could not get some real Progressive Leg passed, such as the PO. THEN when Independents stayed home rather than vote for the Problem Blue Dogs, they lashed out at DEMS the ones who do vote.
Almost every Progressive Dem held their seats in 2008. I'm sure it wasn't Republicans who kept them there.
The nonsense we see sometimes is just beyond belief.
If they want Independents, and they need them, then they better start giving them candidates they can vote FOR.

(36,392 posts)ticket. The idea that any regular duer is going to stay home because of our lively intramural poop-throwing is preposterous. Same with the desperate-sounding email from dccc, dfa, and so on.
Thanks for the shout out, sometimes the obvious needs to bepointed out.
