Does Your State Allow Voter Registration on Election Day?

Just curious about how many DUers live in states that allow it. Please vote in the poll and tell us which state you live in, if you wish.

We almost lost that, though, when the Republicans controlled both houses of the state legislature.

Thanks to the fucked up voter registration law that was just upheld.

The upside, we registered a record number of new voters statewide. I'm really hoping for an upset so big it will make Abbott cry like a little girl.

I am not paying attention to the polls. I know what we've managed to do with registration, and I'll be helping people get to the polls on election day. No one predicted that Ann Richards would win, she was written off, and then she won.

It's time for history to repeat itself.

before it could even go into effect... Much to the dismay of our TBag governor Paul LePage, and his minions in the legislature.

In June 2011, the Maine legislature passed a law that ended Election Day voter registration, which had been in place since 1973. It also banned absentee voting during the two business days before an election.[5] The first measure was the target of a citizen referendum ("people's veto&quot which was held in November 2011.[6] Maine voters reinstated Election Day registration with 59% in favor.[7]

I don't think a referendum would ever happen here. I just found out they've delayed Perry's court date until AFTER the election.

There was a delay built in for it to take effect. I'm not sure if it's in place yet for the November election.

ETA: It appears that same-day registration will not take effect until 2016 in CA.

registration database is set up. It won't go into effect until a new system is in place, according to a couple of Google searches.

there is a policy we will be voting on to move the day back. I will be voting against it. I like same day registration.

There has been no change in that for many years, although other voting procedures have been changed under Walker. Same-day registration is quite popular, and doing away with it would require starting a motor-voter program at a hefty cost.

Voters who need to register (new voters or those who moved or changed name since last voting) must bring along a current driver's license or state ID if they have one (the registration form needs the number and expiration date) or else use the last four digits of their social security number. They also must bring a document with their name and current address (utility bill, anything from a unit of government, or another item on the prescribed list).
