The best way to stop a bad guy with a gun is with a good gal* without a gun
- Not-Wayne-LaPierre Manny
*I used "gal" as the counterpart to "guy".
UPDATE: Edited the bit about jurors as it was misleading.

(34,589 posts)"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children. This is not a way of life at all in any true sense. Under the cloud of threatening war, it is humanity hanging from a cross of iron."

(75,480 posts)left their countries in with the Bush/Cheney wars will only create more Al Queda and ISIS until we do the right thing to fix it. Right now we are pouring gas on a fire. If we are going to spend billions on the gas wouldn't it make more sense to use water instead to put out the fires?

(111,260 posts)Anyone who alerts on mild language in common usage should be given a time out. I wish DU would start tracking the number and type of alerts from all of us, to see who is doing the alerting over nothing.
It's very, very rare that I vote to hide a post. Most posts here are from socially conscious adults and nitpicking language is ruining the site for all of us.
Yes, hard fighting racist and sexist words should not be used. However, "gal" is not offensive in the least except to the type of overly prissy person who combs websites looking for things to be offended by.

(18,124 posts)I feel there are a lot of people from the Discussionist site that have come here with nefarious intentions and one of those intentions is to sow dissension among the progressives and liberals here. Of course I can't prove it, but the stuff getting hidden by the current juries here is close to what I saw/experienced at Discussionist. Lot of RWers on their juries slamming any liberal or progressive thought or statements on race, misogyny, LGBT rights. Just sense a shift here. I read here on this site the other day that someone else is sensing the subtlety of the shift to the right here.
