“The best way to stop a bad guy with a gun"Last edited Sat Oct 25, 2014, 06:52 PM - Edit history (1)
“The best way to stop a bad guy with a gun is with a good gal* without a gun”
- Not-Wayne-LaPierre Manny *I used "gal" as the counterpart to "guy". UPDATE: Edited the bit about jurors as it was misleading.

4. Yep. Imagine if all that money, being spent to bomb
people and their homes to smithereens, was used in those countries to build schools, hospitals and public works. I wonderwhat the outcome could be?

8. You, and the badass general who won WWII
"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children. This is not a way of life at all in any true sense. Under the cloud of threatening war, it is humanity hanging from a cross of iron."

10. What if we used all that money OUR country
to build schools, hospitals and public works? How great would that be?

15. That would be wonderful, however, I feel the shambles we have
left their countries in with the Bush/Cheney wars will only create more Al Queda and ISIS until we do the right thing to fix it. Right now we are pouring gas on a fire. If we are going to spend billions on the gas wouldn't it make more sense to use water instead to put out the fires?

He has a real knack for getting under the skin of right wing assholes

because of the tongue in cheek posts that are obvious to 99% of us but fly over the heads of extreme dogmatists.

5. Yes, it has, although I prefer to call it PRISSY.
Anyone who alerts on mild language in common usage should be given a time out. I wish DU would start tracking the number and type of alerts from all of us, to see who is doing the alerting over nothing.
It's very, very rare that I vote to hide a post. Most posts here are from socially conscious adults and nitpicking language is ruining the site for all of us. Yes, hard fighting racist and sexist words should not be used. However, "gal" is not offensive in the least except to the type of overly prissy person who combs websites looking for things to be offended by. |

it's amazing what does get alerted on and hidden. I was just trying to head something off.

I have been alerted on, it wouldn't surprise me one bit.

21. I'm just going to say it
I feel there are a lot of people from the Discussionist site that have come here with nefarious intentions and one of those intentions is to sow dissension among the progressives and liberals here. Of course I can't prove it, but the stuff getting hidden by the current juries here is close to what I saw/experienced at Discussionist. Lot of RWers on their juries slamming any liberal or progressive thought or statements on race, misogyny, LGBT rights. Just sense a shift here. I read here on this site the other day that someone else is sensing the subtlety of the shift to the right here.
