Not Relevant Anymore.
They do not care a damn how many school kids are killed, they care about GUN SALES period.
The NRA is no longer relevant, especially when that screed LaPierre's answer to these horrors is: "the ONLY way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun..."
It took an unarmed lunch lady to assist in stopping the shooter in Marysville yesterday Wayne...kiss my ass.
My error: it was a first year teacher that a student witness THOUGHT was a lunch lady! Wayne, you can still kiss it

they supported reasonable gun laws.
There original mission was to promote gun safety and marksmanship. Not anymore.

(9,186 posts)they do not give a shit about innocent Americans being gunned down in America. Sales period.
I left the NRA in the 80's because of their hard-right turn.

Based on DU, I'm never quite sure if the NRA is a paper tiger or they secretly control all levers of government in the USA.
It's very confusing and entertaining.
The NRA is a gun safety and sporting organization, and the NRA-ILA is a single issue lobbying organization like many others. If elected officials fear them, it's because they believe their opinions carry weight with their constituents and/or they can raise sufficient funds to endanger their reelection. Welcome to democracy and free speech!
If you want to enact gun control, no one is stopping you from organizing your own groups, speaking out, lobbying and campaigning. Heck, you have bored billionaire in your corner. You just need to convince some voters.
If you want to be afraid of or hate a gun rights organization, I would think that the Second Amendment Foundation would be a better choice. They, not the NRA, were the group that successfully prosecuted the Heller and McDonald cases.
