It is like they are at a restaurant, and order something off the menu - it arrives cold, over priced and tastes terrible. They eat it anyway, because the restaurant review told them it was good.
Next week they return to the restaurant - because they read somewhere it was good - order the same thing, which arrives just as in before - expensive, awful, barely edible.
And they eat it again - because they heard somewhere it was good for them.
And they keep doing it.
Today's Republican politicians (actually pretty much all of them since - Eisenhower, maybe?) are the worst thing on the menu. And still people order it.
The only thing that it proves is that pouring money into lying ads work - there is something fundamentally flawed with we as humans that some of this shit that is pushed at us sticks. They wouldn't do it if it wasn't effective.

(14,733 posts)Like the fact that restaurant owners are posting bad reviews online about how much worse other restaurants are, sometimes openly, sometimes anonymously. You do seem to address that in the last paragraph, but it's after you've left the analogy in the upper part and have moved on to your analysis.

(5,279 posts)They will only take things expensive, awful, and barely edible, even after learning there is more on the menu. After investing so much time and effort in the e,a,and be, pride keeps them from admitting they have been fooled for such a long period.
The only thing that will break that level of pride is the truly horrific expensive, awful, and barely edible.

(30,058 posts)Enough money to survive, Republicans tell them they do not need an increase in wages and they believe them so much they vote Republican. In the south prejudices overwhelm the common mind and they vote Republican because Democrats had the audacity to vote in a black president. Many of the low income people I talk to votes Republican because they are told Republicans restricts women's right of choice, another dumb move.

(14,733 posts)and one that was repeated on several pictures was the line about how many poor white people will be willing to vote Republican as long as Republicans give them the chance to look down on poor people of colour. And it is, sadly, still true. They want the opportunity to 'look down on' other people more than being better off themselves, if it might mean that those other people are also better off.

(45,274 posts)The essential point of them all is that a very large number of people will choose deny themselves more money if their accepting the increase is accompanied people beneath them getting larger increases that allow those previously on the bottom to catch up.

(52,438 posts)the steak is burned on one side and raw in the middle. it stinks, tastes lousy and makes him sick from the raw bits.
meanwhile, his partner says the fish is delicious, so they share it. he says, hey, this is not bad.
next week they return and order the same thing. she reminds him the steak was lousy last time but he says, yeah, but i'm really hungry and a nice juicy steak sounds great. same thing happens and they end up splitting her fish.
and again and again. no matter how many times, he keeps insisting he doesn't care for fish, it smells funny and isn't filling, and a nice juicy steak just sounds so good. it constantly disappoints but he can't help but continue to order it.
