I know, tasteless and not always well "executed", if you find better costumes please do post them.

(14,733 posts)I was in general far too busy to notice costumes, the kids were coming so frequently last night, but there were a lot of generically clad kids in semi-military gear, and lots of black. I just assumed 'ninja' I guess, or 'blackwater'. I do remember one kid in a disposable gown, gloves, and facemask, which is another outfit that made the 'bad costumes' list this year.
I think the biggest surprise was actually what I almost DIDN'T see. There were only two 'Elsa's from Frozen, as far as I recall. Had really sort of expected a ton of those.

Looks like a cool cartoon. The Islamic State is giving Isis a bad name but we can't call the the Islamic State because well, they're not supposed to be a state and all.

If you cannot tell the difference then yes, everything will offend, thus the Politically Correct over reactions that just make people more uptight, not enlightened.
There's no end to what can be prohibited, for instance should I be offended if people go out on Halloween and desecrate a holiday that is sacred to my people?
I grew up hearing stories about my ancestors and Halloween is quite a serious ritual.
* And we were oppressed too, still are in many instances, by the frickin' Anglo Saxons!

(5,662 posts)The actual equivalent you're looking for would be an English person dressing up as an IRA bomber for Halloween and putting on a cod Belfast accent.
The fact that you don't see many "sexy Bobby Sands" costumes speaks to the fact that you are not, in 2014, facing the same kind of racism and persecution that middle eastern people face in the US and I'm sorry that it needs to be explained to you why white people dressing up as ISIS bombers for Halloween is not "light humour" but the perpetuation of an offensive racial stereotype.

(39,313 posts)How uptight are we going to get about Mexican sombreros. If they are so offensive why are they sold all over Mexico to tourists?

(5,662 posts)It's the dumb-ass white person running around in it drinking tequila and shaking maracas because it's a Mexican holiday and sombrero + tequila = Mexico.
Beards and turbans aren't offensive either. Putting them on as shorthand for "terrorist" is.
