(14,400 posts)are pretty hard core, I don't see them changing their minds. The GOP has been going all out trying to convince them not to vote for him and they're pretty pissed about it.

(14,400 posts)I was afraid to mention that possibility to avoid the jinx.
I'm actually amazed he lasted as long as he did. He's a fucking nutjob but damn I'll give him credit for brass balls.

(20,682 posts)and Foley is a scorched earth republican. He's something from the south, and doesn't belong here.
Malloy is a good man, doesn't mess up, he makes sense for our state.
There are money conservatives up here, but not many religious conservatives, and racism is probably lower here than in other states. So, republicans aren't going to get a free pass here.
They're going to have to be much, much better than the democrat to win, and that is not the case this time.

(52,220 posts)it's less acceptable in polite society and there's a higher standard for the dog whistles.
here, "outside money" is absolutely hammering malloy for raising taxes. that certainly resonates with the money conservatives. it's slimy and simplistic politicking (republicans are highly irresponsible in cutting taxes, then complain when democrats restore them to sane levels), but it's effective.
good to hear malloy is still ahead despite the ad barrage.

(4,112 posts)in that Visconti seems to be drawing from voters who'd likely go to Foley. Here in Fairfield County, there's more Foley support, but I do see a good number of Malloy signs. My Repub brother-in-law and his wife despise Foley and actually have said that they think Malloy has done a decent job with what he had to manage. They normally vote R but are voting for Malloy this time. Gives me a little more hope. I also think that not showing up to that last debate on Channel 30 (NBC) hurt Foley. Showed him as the petulant brat that he is.

(25,183 posts)When I drive to work in NJ every day from just across the NY border on the Garden State Parkway, I really notice the number of CT license plates. Five years ago, I'd see maybe one a week, now I see about two or three dozen a day, passing my Sonata Hybrid which is in the slow lane, saving fuel. And they're not driving beaters, they're driving Beemers.
They're not on their way to NYC, because there are easier and cheaper ways to get to the city from CT. If Malloy somehow loses, it will be because the well off folks in CT who are in the greater NYC metro area have soured on him.
