In Washington State: For Gun Control, "YES on 594" and NO to Guns, "No on 591".

Initiative 591 would prevent the state legislature from enacting background check laws unless there is a federal standard, which doesn’t currently exist. It would also prevent the government from confiscating firearms without due process, which already does exist.

In the other corner is Initiative 594, requiring background checks on all gun purchasers except on antiques or an immediate family member’s firearm. The language of that initiative is actually based on a bill that failed to pass in the divided Washington legislature, with a Democratic House and Republican Senate.

2. I believe background checks for firearms are a great idea.

I am sure there are many bad ways to implement background checks, but I definitely support the basic idea. I'm glad Washington will have background checks. Might save many lives.
