A strongturn by native americans In SD could provide an upset In SD.
Back in 2002 Native americans helped Tim Johnson just barely win.

(10,745 posts)Well, it does help to remember that Heidi Heitkamp managed to win thanks to the local Indigenous people in North Dakota in 2012.....so, maybe, just maybe, Rick Weiland could ride the wave, too. Here's hoping.

(5,066 posts)Also let's remember few thought Heitkamp was going to win In ND or that tester would survive In MT.Nate silver had both of them losing as back in 2010 Reid and Bennet.
It would be great if Native americans came out and remindered both parties they vote too.

(20,818 posts)try and prove it. My husband and I are white, but we live on a SD Indian reservation as hubby works in tribal law. Tomorrow, he will be a legal election observer (poll watcher) and I will be spending the day driving people to and from the polls. Reservations are vast and remote and too many don't have cars or even methods of transportation (when you don't have the money for food and heat, you're not gonna have it for a car or gas, let alone maintenance, etc.), and this has often been a major problem with elections and hampered NA turnout. The SD reservations have received grants and funding to increase voter turnout, and you'd better believe we're pulling out all the stops to do so. I hope it has an effect, I cannot stand the thought of that corrupt, cowardly, dishonest, incompetent, corporatist, big-money-loving, (and I could go on and on) Rounds as a senator, especially taking Johnson's place. Dealing with teanutters Thune and Noem is bad enough. Bleh.
Oh, and Larry Pressler can go fuck himself. If it weren't for him and his ridiculous candidacy that has absolutely no chance at all, Wieland would very likely have no problem winning.

(31,818 posts)My husband took folks in NJ today and we are both taking people tomorrow. A ride in rural areas makes a difference!

(20,818 posts)I do NOT plan to discuss actual voting with them, however, i.e., who they're voting for and why. That would not only be very inappropriate and wrong, it could also be considered intimidating (not all NA vote Dem).
