General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region Forumsfor the first time I voted by mail, how are you doing the deed?
I had to run hard across most of the continent to get to my mail in ballot just in time to beat the dead line one week ago.
Because it altered my usual 7-10 days on the road as a trucker to do so, I told my boss I'd go back out for another week, so I will follow the results starting here near Chicago, and I'm guessing I won't know how the senate shakes out till I make it back home to the Los Angeles area Friday morning.
I feel very hopeful regarding holding the senate, but no matter what, I did my small part, and I can retain some peace of mind even if this goes south.

(45,251 posts)I voted for the first answer in this poll, but will not actually vote until this afternoon.
We have to do much more than just vote, if we possibly can. All kinds of volunteer work needs to be done and winning takes money, too. It's more of a marathon.

(16,402 posts)[font color="navy" face="Verdana"]I'm a permanent mail ballot voter, so I get my ballot early. Then take my sweet time researching candidates & issues, completing the ballot, and making sure it's perfect.
On Election Day, I take a nice stroll down to the Courthouse and drop it off in person.
Best of both worlds!

We also live in the same state.

(11,175 posts)Last week I walked down to the county center. The Clerk's office will issue you a mail-in ballot. If you want to, however, you can fill it in on the spot and then go down the hall to deliver it to the Board of Elections.
Well, you can do all that if you get there before 5:00 p.m. If you get a business call that you have to deal with, with the result that you don't get to the county center until just after the offices have closed for the day, then you have to do it again later in the week.
I don't have to walk a block to the local school today because of those two lengthy trips I made last week. My only consolation is that my method is more heart-healthy.

(36,421 posts)I had two choices: Go west two blocks to the post office and plunk down 49 cents or go east two blocks to city hall and drop it into a preelection ballot box.
I rode my bike, then ticked off an additional twenty miles after visiting city hall. Don't tell She Who Must Be Obeyed I stopped midway for a croissant and cappuccino.

(11,175 posts)Also find out if there's bike parking at the Board of Elections office.
I'm not into croissants but I already know where in that neighborhood I can get a good bagel.

Thanks for the post, though -- it's an interesting product. I might have heard of it if I'd ever owned a mountain bike.

(18,791 posts)I travel for work so I'm not always home on voting days.
And it's so easy with no stress of checking in or pressure to vote and get out of the polling place, not to mention the threats of PukeBaggers hanging around.

(13,390 posts)The building where I live is a polling place. There's no excuse for anyone who lives here not to vote. Sadly, the turnout is not particularly high.

(6,719 posts)Signed up four years ago for permanent VBM. Get your ballot early and have time to cogitate. Hope you are glad you tried it. Usually find there are races I need to research.

(26,117 posts)I live in a small town, and the wait is never long. I took my kids along when they were younger, so they could share the experience. To me, the act of going to the polling place with all the other voters makes it more like an event - almost a big deal.
I only wish we still had the old style voting machines with the levers - though I've only ever pulled the D lever!
However, I truly believe there should be many options for voters to use - depending on what's most convenient for them.
