http://www.nbcnews.com/politics/first-read/grand-total-ad-spending-top-senate-races-n240901"For these 10 Senate races in Alaska, Arkansas, Colorado, Iowa, Georgia, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, New Hampshire and North Carolina -- Republicans outspent Democrats by a total of $230.4 million to $198.4 million on radio and television advertising.
The only state where Democrats outspent the GOP? In the nations most expensive Senate race in North Carolina, Democrats have shelled out $40.6 million compared to Republicans $39.9 million. The Democratic candidate in that race, Kay Hagan, has also spent the most of any candidate on the air, at $11.4 million.
In the second costliest race, in Colorado, Republicans are outspending Democrats $35.7 million to $27.4 million, for a total of $63.1 million in the Centennial State.
Big spenders in the 10 races include the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee ($49.9 million), the National Republican Senatorial Committee ($36.4 million) and the Koch-affiliated Freedom Partners Network ($32.1 million)."
Can someone tell me why someone would spend $40 million to win a gig that pays $174,000 a year?
You want to know what is wrong with this country? There it is. It's not the citizens, it's not the apathetic, it's not the angry.
The problems in this country boil down to this... Greed, Corporations and a media run by said Corporations.

(4,876 posts)I'm in Denver where we had the most expensive race in the country and Cory Gardner outspent Mark Udall by like 30%. You could see it too, 3 ads for Gardner every half hour from 6pm till 9pm... A stupid person would think Mark Udall was the anti-christ if all they did was watch TV..

(36,498 posts)Obscene amounts of money were spent in a very, very close race. Karl Rove's American Crossroads, the Koch brother's Americans for Prosperity, and the NRCC were spending money like drunken sailors.
To their credit, DCCC stepped up and countered every lie and distorted fact by throwing a little mud right back at Ose. All in all the ad campaigns were ugly with the exception of Bera's own ads: he maintained his dignity.
