If a school districts knows that many families will take their kids out of school for a family hunting trip on a particular day, it makes sense to not have classes that day.

I've not heard of families planning activities on election days but that would be wonderful if they did. Family Spirit Civics Day! No school!

If they are old enough to handle a firearm, shouldn't they also be old enough to vote (and drive)

people should be a certain age before they handle guns, or if you think the age for driving and voting should be lowered.

but it makes you think that if a child is mature enough to handle a gun, shouldn't they also be mature enough to drive and vote?

to hunt deer in Minnesota if accompanied by an adult hunter. I don't want them driving cars on our roads.

I'd also like to think that Santa will bring me a new car this Christmas, that the tooth fairy will pay me the money she still owes (my parents were going through a tight money phase while I was losing molars), the Easter bunny will bring me mounds of Cadbury bars, and that the Great Pumpkin will bring joy to all children.

I don't think there is an official hunting day here. But the schools were closed for voting day because many of the voting precincts are at schools.

Funding is impacted by attendance in most schools. Since most students are not old enough to vote but many can hunt it makes more sense to make the first day of hunting season a holiday and avoid the financial penalty.

I had the pleasure of saying within earshot of a hostile poll watcher, "I'm using my passport because I feel like I'm in a foreign country." The friendly poll worker said, "Now, don't get us in trouble..."

Have proof of residency as a requirement? Gun permits require background checks and fingerprinting to receive one.

Other accepted IDs (military ID, passport, whatever else) don't have proof of residency.

I repeat: It's about voter suppression.

Hell, even a lot of teachers take the day off to be out in the field.
