The trouble with referendums

like the minimum wage is that it allows people to not have to vote on the people who would represent them in the legislature to enact these types of changes. In other words they can still vote republican and not make a party responsible. It is a bad idea.

1. The good part about referendums

is that they allow the people to go around godawful idiots who manage to get elected to office. Referendums are much closer to the ideal of being 'the will of the people' than elected 'representatives' ever are, and should actually be easier to get on ballots.

They are a political tool, can be used for good or bad purposes.
