here is the current Time's Editorial on dark money in politics. (Well, the last paragraph, anyway):

Dark Money Helped Win the Senate
By THE EDITORIAL BOARD
Political operatives say this year was just a dress rehearsal for 2016, when there will be even more money, much of it secret, all benefiting the interests of the richest and best connected Americans. Given big moneys influence on Tuesday, the chances for limiting it are more distant than ever.

I used to wonder what they are thinking: Now I know. No condemnations: no call for a correction. Instead the (supposedly greatest newspaper in America) they throw up their hands and cluck like a bunch of disturbed chickens who finally figured out that they having eggs without the pleasure of sex.
The press is neutered and (consequently) ineffectual.
Come on Times would it have hurt to say that this situation is unacceptable and then proposing changes that would eradicate this blight on Democracy. (Guess they did not want to piss off their wealthy readers which, oh, I don't know? Makes them as bad as those the criticize?

There isn't another election before then. You're stuck with the federal and state congresses that you've got. They won't change the system - they just got elected under it. The Supreme Court won't change it either; even if one or more of the conservative justices drops dead unexpectedly, the Senate will block anyone Obama nominates who might possibly rule differently on election spending.
I think the USA needs to recognise that the combination of the 1st Amendment and love of capitalism means money rules American elections, and has done so since the advent of mass media.

I'm not sure why you're condemning the paper over this.
