Plants still offer best way to remove CO2 from atmosphere, says UAF scientist

I recently wrote about a thought experiment proposed by Fairbanks scientist Jim Beget. He suggests raining down crystals of a compound that captures carbon dioxide onto a frigid plateau in Antarctica. There, the greenhouse gas might remain locked for a few hundred thousand years.

Beget will present his idea at the fall meeting of the American Geophysical Union in San Francisco next month. Alarming levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere are a frequent topic of discussion at the meeting, which will pull more than 20,000 scientists to California.

Dan Mann will also attend that meeting. Though the UAF geographer's presentation in San Francisco has nothing to do with carbon dioxide, he, too, has an idea how to remove some from the blanket of gases that surround our planet.

Mann suggests enhancing a carbon-dioxide removal system that has worked for a few billion years — the silent breath of plants.

Since Global Climate change is a much bigger threat than ISIS, not to mention the daily threat to millions of Americans who are homeless, more homeless school children than ever...

Instead of spending $25 Billion per year bombing ISIS in Iraq (and I am sure it is more than that)...

Why don't we create jobs in America, planting things?

These big metal structures with certain properties do better at removing carbon dioxide from the natural cycle than trees do.

It made me realize that for a profit, the compnay that makes these structures is going to go after trees.

And who knows if the "scientific study" that "proves" the structures remove carbon dioxide really is a legit study. In the new world of Corporate Science, we all know that if you give a person enough money then they can prove almost anything "scientifically."
