Ferguson police officer raped woman in jail, lawsuit alleges

Jacob Kirn
St. Louis Business Journal

A pregnant woman says she was raped in jail by a Ferguson police officer last year, according to a federal lawsuit filed Friday against the city and the officer, Jaris Hayden.

Hayden now faces four felony charges, including sexual contact with a prisoner and acceding to corruption by a public servant.

DNA analysis has confirmed that pubic hair captured by J.W. was from Hayden, according to the lawsuit, which seeks compensatory and punitive damages.

It also alleges civil rights abuses by the city of Ferguson.

"The conduct of City of Ferguson law enforcement in engaging in repeated acts of violence and constitutional violations against the citizenry constitutes a pattern," the lawsuit says. "The City has taken inadequate steps or no steps at all to control the violent acts of its law enforcement personnel."

Ferguson PD needs to be wiped from the map and started from scratch.

It will be interesting to see what filth the Federal investigation dregs up.

He's a corrections officer who also happens to be black. There's an appearance of disparity here...

Regardless, Missouri is crazy! Now they're in a "state of emergency" with hundreds of extra homeland security vehicles and national guard to go along with their already militarized show of force against peaceful protesters.

I sincerely weep for what's happening in this country.

Police officer and corrections officer are two different job classifications. Normally, the county sheriff runs the jail and corrections officers are not sworn. in fact, they are usually lowly paid, lowly educated cop wannabes. I doubt the alleged rapist was employed by the Ferguson Police Department, he definitely wasn't a police officer.

He has almost none of the powers. He can't arrest, he can't carry a gun, he doesn't drive a patrol car, he can't issue citations, he is not called to testify in trials (except his own). A jail guard is not a police officer and the headline is misleading. A jail guard has power over prisoners and this guy abused one of them (probably more). He is a criminal and an abuser, but he isn't a cop.

My brother is a correctional officer here in AZ, he is a POST certified law enforcement officer, carrys a gun off duty, has all the powers of arrest, powers of investigation, can testify at trials.

Unless this officer is a private guard, he is a law enforcement officer, he is POST certified, he is allowed to carry a firearm, he has the power of arrest.

...They're creating a self-fulfilling prophesy.

What are they basing the state of emergency on? The governor is not supposed to be able to declare a state of emergency unless one has already happened:

"...a natural or man-made disaster of major proportions has actually ocurred within this state..."
