Emmett Till memorial tree planted at US Capitol.

Monday, a tree planting ceremony was held in honor of Emmett Till at the U.S. Capitol.

Senator Susan Collins sponsored the U.S. Capitol Grounds Memorial Tree in honor of 14-year-old Emmett Till, whose brutal murder in 1955 in Money, Mississippi for whistling at a white woman helped spark the civil rights movement. Till was buried at Burr Oak Cemetery in Alsip, Illinois.

Senator Collins, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, Architect of the U.S. Capitol Stephen T. Ayers, Janet Langhart Cohen, author of the play "Anne and Emmett," and others were at the tree planting ceremony at 11:30 a.m. on Monday.

given the outright racism that is showing it's ugly face more and more, this moving tribute couldn't be more timely, imo.

I'm watching it on Rachel right now. Thad Cochran is standing at the elbow of Eric Holder who is addressing the crowd. Rachel said the entire Miss. delegation was present.
