(2,004 posts)The powers to be learned by the killings at Orangeburg, Jackson State and Kent State that people doing nothing illegal can be killed with no consequences. It is my opinion the killings of these students have a direct correlation to the acts of violence of law enforcement officers today.
Here is a link to Wikipedia lists of killings by law enforcement officers:

A Gallup Poll taken immediately after the shootings showed that 58 percent of respondents blamed the students, 11 percent blamed the National Guard and 31 percent expressed no opinion.[42]

(12,157 posts)I have never heard that Richard Nixon "called" out the Ohio National Guard. That was done by Ohio Governor Jim Rhodes at the request of Kent Mayor LeRoy Satrom. That is the usual way National Guard troops are activated for duty in their states-by the governor-not the president. If there is evidence of Nixon requesting Rhodes to call out his NG let's see it.
The other 2 incidents posted here, Orangeburg and Jackson State were the work of state and local police.
This doesn't make these incidents any less immoral or Nixon any less a criminal but please, please get your facts straight. There is enough prevarication on the right let's try to rise above that.

(13,986 posts)Rhodes did it with Nixon's cooperation and in consultation with him. That is why I mentioned the involvement of his cronies.
Rhodes was angling for a DC gig, one reason he went along with the deployment. Of course, when it went pear-shaped, Tricky left Rhodes out in the cold.
